Great to see Dreher come on for the last 30 mins for the U23s for his first game since his awful injury back in August 2019.

Looked neat and tidy and composed on the ball, a proper 'box-to-box midfielder' is how Bright described him. Hopefully he can get some good minutes under his belt with the U23s and will be an option for us in the first team next season.

He was the most highly rated one of his crop I think?

How old is he now? An under 23 team is an odd concept in so far as they used to say if you haven't made it into the first team by the time you are 21, you should leave, but we seem to have a few lads hanging around the club who are 22-23ish but have barely played any first team football, for us or anyone else.

The physical side of the game can be a nightmare, and it has been for Luke, I felt he was inches away before the injury he got.
Hopefully he has recovered, because he is one who really could get on, if he can take any opportunities that come his way.

He's 22 (was just 20 when he had his ACL injury). Here's hoping he can remain injury free now so that he can realize his potential. I remember seeing his late cameo in that 8 goal end of season game against Bournemouth. Judging by today's 30 minutes, he seems to still have what it takes to push on.

Injuries though can have a nasty psychological effect with the huge fear of it happening again or just any other nasty injury anywhere when the unlucky victim is fully aware of the time and pain that's involved in order to recover and then get fit, I seriously think Benteke's injury when he continued for well to long with it has had the detrimental effect we've all seen since.

You were doing quite well until you mentioned Benteke. You know full well the response you are going to get with a ridiculous statement like that and that’s the only reason why you made it.

At least we have got an Academy to be proud of. What a shame the gaffer is vaccinated against using any of them.

Pathetic dig, who is he not using at the moment?

I was pondering who might be the next young player to break through, possibly Banks or Rak-Sakyi (maybe when several first teamers are away at AFCON there might be space on the bench?) and remembered that a couple of years ago Luke Dreher was someone who I thought might take the step up. I know he has been desperately unlucky with injuries but I haven't seen his name for a while. Is he still around (it looks like he was given a contract extension in August)? Any news of him?

They have shown considerable faith in Dreher.

We will see if he can hold up physically and fulfils all that faith.
