I know that this doesn't even bear thinking about, but... What if we get absolutely humiliated at Brighton next Monday ? Parish and Hodgson have been shielded from the abolsute disgust of the fans by having to play games behind closed doors. A win from Brighton puts them on the same number of points as us. A big win and they could go above us. I can't see how Hodgson can survive if that happens. If he does, then I can only think that the board are not too concerned about going down. A whole host of players out of contract and off the books in the summer, plus BAtsuayi going back to Chelsea.

Any type of Brighton win will take them above us, their goal difference is superior: -5 compared to -15

We are almost certainly going to lose, and badly, to them. They don't need a big win either BTW we have the third worst GD in the division after the bottom two. They'll leapfrog us. If nothing is to happen off the back of that, we can rest assured that there is definitely no other plan other than to stick with RH until the end of the season. We then all pray for some points from somewhere and that the Holy Grail summer overhaul turns out to be real and not a pipe dream or mirage.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

The Point i keep making is that many think Howe or Lampard are front runners for the job if Roy goes ? So why are we waiting as they are currently available i imagine, and won't be come end of season ?

If Parish has no contingency planning for when Hodgson leaves then we are in deep mire and, possibly, broke.

I think if we get stuffed he will walk before getting sacked - one or the other will happen. However, if we put up a far better performance and lose in the knowledge that we have injured players returning and more time between matches then I think he is safe. My thoughts have always been that he should have gone at the end of last season but that didn’t happen. I’m now thinking that if he goes more defensively with the midfield (eg 3 central midfielders) and play to the strengths of our ageing squad that we might stay up? Not sure now if another managerial team have enough time to come in and keep us up. Whereas Hodgson just might keep us up and then leave with fans thanking him rather than what we are saying about him now and after that dreadful finish last season? But if we play with the same formation against Brighton as we have done most of this season and with so many of our main players injured then we will get stuffed and he will have to go.

If nothing is to happen off the back of that, we can rest assured that there is definitely no other plan other than to stick with RH until the end of the season. The feeling has been that with 29 pts on the board and the distance between ourselves and the 'Bottom 3' we should survive in the PL. IF, we collapse like 'Humpty Dumpty' under Mr Hodgson and other teams below us make up ground so that there is a realistic possibility of relegation then I would suggest the following considerations might enter the mindset of the 'Board'. 1. No new person at the helm would make a difference with an ageing, injury ravaged squad. 2. Mr Hodgson with his vast experience of football management and the squad is best placed to avert the disaster of relegation. 3. The 'Board' might conclude a change IS needed - a new voice, a new approach, new ideas at a time of crisis. 4. If they conclude '3' they could decide on an 'Interim' appointment from within (Perhaps joint) on the basis that trying to attract a permanent more high profile manager might be impossible given that calibre of person is hardly likely to be attracted with the prospect of relegation on their CV and playing in the Championship next season.

It's hard not to agree with virtually everything that's been said on this thread. I would only suggest that, unlike most posters on here, Roy and the board couldn't care less whether it's Brighton who give us another thumping. Another bad performance and heavy defeat could be the last straw, whoever it was against.

Trouble is, it's been since before where teams leave it too late to make the change, the damage has been done and the situation is irreversible.

I think Roy and several players know they’re off in the summer, it might explain the lifeless performance’s and apparent lack of commitment recently. I know they’ll give it the old ‘we’re professional’s’ etc but once their hearts not in it, it’s going to take that edge off performances
