Just seen Luis get red card and concede a penalty for this. VAR decided in 15 secs! I give up

I agree something needs to be done.

Not sure sacking is the correct thing to do but maybe a points system and if you hit so many points you get demoted etc (mix it up as well have a ref, ex player that are on panel which decides)

The other thing I don't like is how these var people can hide away they should have to release a report or discus how they came to the conclusions

you see this in other sports reports released to media.

Lets not let the refs off either they can go to monitor and check everything they have gotten away with just passing the buck on

Luiz may be a walking red card but he didn't deserve that. Looks like reputation may have played a part.

Is this becoming a thing now? I think I am right in saying Liverpool have removed an official from overseeing their games too, happy to be corrected if not.

Only my opinion but Michael Oliver is the only ref in the PL I have any faith in and if I were any club I'd request no other refs were involved in my club's matches.

I would love to see them sacked, or be held accountable for decisions but can't see it happening as I assume the refereeing in this country is so bad as a result of a lack of supply, so if they started sacking them what can we expect to see in terms of replacements?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

This already exists, referees with consistent poor performance are dropped down to the championship. The issue is that the refs panel don't rate the championship refs any better than the prem ones so changes aren't going to happen.

Very few have had this done though, presumably as there is no one to replace them. So PL refs know they are safe

Thought the 2nd red card for Southampton was even worse. 1st one nailed on, lucky no assault charge followed

What’s even odder about last nights red cards is this rule that if no challenge is made and a penalty awarded its a red card whereas had Luiz or the Southampton player Bednarek launched in and cleaned the striker out it would’ve been a penalty and a yellow card. This rule only applies in the area.

EPL refs are employed by the PMGOL(30 refs), all other refs are purely amateur.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

There are some stupid rules around currently though that don't make their lives easy and some twonk in a studio telling them to look at an incident when it doesn't need looking at is even worse.
Luis should never have been sent off but that is the letter of the stupid laws!
Apparently - make a legitimate challenge and give away a pen is fine but accidentally touching him is a sending off - madness.
Rules made by people who have no understanding of the game.
As for sacking Referees - they get demoted if they are bad enough or if they get enough minus points - I believe.

If you notice what Halsey said too, plus think of our own experiences, PGMOL are the problem. Clattenberg was chief of them before he was kicked out/resigned. Both he and Halsey have stated, in a roundabout way, that the Premier league refs were under instruction to entertain, hence controversial decisions. Basically ring masters more than refs. We see it almost every match.
