Title provocative, and intended to be so. "UK-EU trade talks are continuing ahead of a mutual deadline on Sunday. The MoD said it was prepared for a "range of scenarios" after 31 December. Navy vessels are already deployed to enforce UK and European fishing laws for large parts of the year." (BBC website) and shoot up those dingys from Calais whilst you're there. Or will the English fishermen refund that money?

Much Ado About Nothing. I don't think we're getting a deal yet? According to the media Merkel is now emerging as chief villein. As for fishing make it clear to the EU no deal no fish. As for the Navy tell them to warn off any trawlers in our waters and make it clear if they see that boat again it will be impounded in lieu of a significant fine hopefully that will be enough. There is no need to escalate this into some kind of phony war even without a deal there are still areas where we and the EU need to co-operate on individual issues. Tell the EU when they are ready to agree our red lines we can re-start talks until then focus on keeping the goods flowing and ramp up trade talks with other countries.
