Just read on SSN that we will make a move for him when PVAs contract comes to an end this season. It seems Sky must be very short of stories this week. Not a very likely palace signing IMO

Scorer of the first PL goal at Wembley.
Scored for Chelsea v Tottenham who were playing home games there prior to moving into their plush new stadium.

Pick from one of the following reasons (other reasons also available).

1. Chelsea are trying to trim their squad and they and or player are flying a kite hoping we are interested.

2. Palace sending a warning to PVA about contract negotiations that other options are available.

3. Palace genuinely fear that PVA will leave and so are looking for alternatives before he goes.

In my humble judgement,Alonso lacks that extra burst of pace and struggles defensively.
He has scored from some excellent free kicks and has scored goals with both feet.
His Grandfather and Father both played for Spain.

Hope not. Shouldn't have even been allowed to play football after what he did.

I bet Mitchell is loving this rumour - NOT!
There are surely far better options out there than this guy Alonso who time and again has been found wanting when it comes to defending. Mind you PvA's defending isn't that much better.

Owen Coyle signed him for Bolton.
Gus Poyet signed him for Sunderland, on loan from Fiorentina.
Antonio Conte signed him for Chelsea.

I'm looking at the sources and cannot see any truth in it. We are in a international break with not a lot happening so sources need to fill spaces. PVA may well leave but I would like to see us get a fee by moving him on in Jan if he wants to leave. MA may well leave Chelsea but I'm guessing would move abroad. I just can't see it.

We already have an ageing squad.Alonso will be 30 next month.
Attacking left-back Jordan Amavi whom Tim Sherwood signed for A.Villa from Nice is a more likely target, as is Charlie Taylor of Burnley.

He's frankly very similar to PVA as a player. Quite technical, rubbish at defence, not as quick but better with the ball. Same age, probably high wages. Not really worth it in my opinion, unless free or cheap. We should have renewed PVA when clubs were sniffing around at the beginning of last season. If he doesn't renew, will be very bad business.

I am informed that Alonso is much better in the air than PVA.

I presume he can play in a back three - something we are not likely to see anytime soon. I don't really rate him and wouldn't see the point anyway. Maybe on a free or really cheap: Butland cheap. My concern is losing PVA on a free when we could have got maybe 20-25 mil last season.
