Being of a certain age and the eyeballs starting to go, decided to invest in a pair of Varifocal glasses as I hate carrying numerous bits and pieces when out, i.e, when going to Selhurst for a game having to root around in pocket when wanting to read the programme at half time then rooting around again for the distance glasses to watch the game, my question is, if any of you on here have varifocals how do you get on with them? I find distance is fine but reading is a nightmare, I can read for a bit but if for arguments sake I wanted to read a few pages of the programme that would be really uncomfortable, are they designed simply for convenience i.e perusing a menu etc or should you be able to read at leisure

Worn them for many years I get on fine with them. 2 Tips 1. When you pick your new pair don't start wearing them until the next morning. Your eyesight will adjust more easily. 2. The height of your glasses will be important (I mean top to bottom). One time I found that instead of looking at the lower half of the lens for reading I was actually looking beneath the lens completely. So if you wear narrow glasses you need to increase the height.

I never really understood how much of a hinderance glasses were until my eyesight started to decline a few years back. Neither did I understand how poor contact lenses are or that you can't wear them all day. I gave up on them very quickly. Fortunately, my eyes still allow me to see through some of the bulls*** posted on here.

I wear varifocals, they are great for me. My close up isn’t that bad and I tend to read at home without glasses. I guess that’s okay for me but isn’t for many? I always buy two pairs (different designs) and the opticians normally have an offer of one pair half price. A tip from me is that you make one pair reactalight meaning you can wear them as sunglasses which saves requiring yet another pair. My clear pair I have a tint on them which is supposedly good for those working with computers/laptops. I pay around the £800 for two pairs which isn’t too bad in my opinion?

My dear wife uses varifocals. I do recall that her varifocals and frames from an independent optician cost a pretty penny!

They are okay but it takes a bit of time to get used to them. Don't go for cheap ones though as I did after I ran over my first pair (expensive ones) with a lawn mower. You will spend your whole time moving your head up and down and sideways till you focus. A good pair will have lens's with a good grading of vision and with good peripheral vision.

I had to get them recently, after the first lockdown - which meant I had to work from home. Sitting at a desk constantly looking at a screen did my eyes in. Posting on the HOL doesn't help too much either. I never wear them though, as I find straight afterwards I can't see anything much at all. I feel like I want to preserve the eyesight I have left. I bought expensive Calvin Klein ones to be hipster cool, so it's not that I don't look f***ing great in them, honest.
