Ain't that the truth. Had a look at a static in Bournemouth about three years ago, one of those double width ones, really nice.

The price? a quarter of a million quid, plus I think £6k a year site fees. Oh, and you could only keep it for 15 years.

looked at both, campervans too expensive, also dont have anywhere to store it...bought a 6 berth caravan in selsey for just under 20K, have seen the bigger ones up to 300K but our one is fine for us, wifi etc, is a nice get away to the coast, but if you buy one need be realistic, i think it works out at about 100 quid a week with site fees, gas, electric & random council tax you have to pay

Having a static caravan does limited the amount of driveways you can Tarmac.

On a serious note. Think about what you want from a site, Clubs, pools and entertainment put the ground rent up. Also what are the rules regarding the age of the van private sites more likely to allow older vans. Do you want a lively site or a peaceful on. As mentioned most parks are only open 8 to 10 months of the year. Consider distance, maintenance costs (draining down in the winter) and certificates if you are renting it out. One of my friends has a Chalet in Selsey (not Bunn lesuire) which is nice for a get away. Chalets about 30k [Link] annual fees 2.5k Two bedroom sleeps 6 Club, Bar, Pool, Tennis courts and backs onto golf course good alternative to a static and a good resale value Good luck

They screw you over every which way. If you ever want to remove your caravan from the site you have to do it through them and so on. And as you say, after 15 years on some sites you have to replace it. What's that then £16666 a year, or £22.6k a year if you include ground fees. Would be better off keeping the money and just going where you like in the moment. They're dirt cheap to spend a week here and there at anyway, minus the hassle.

The only 'bargain' angle I can see is if people are essentially going to live in the caravan for several months a year, or most weekends, and they manage to pick up a decent value second hand one.
