There are days when I feel the same however when I think about what annoys me it normally turns out to be the politicians not the people. I hope the Scots stay but the UK politicians do a poor job of explaining to the Scots the disaster that independence will be. I also have this theory that the Scots use the threat to get more money and concessions but that when it comes to it they will vote to stay.

English independence? England is more like East Germany used to be under communist rule and the stasi, ask your local tory MP if that is not so? And apart from the Home Counties the old satellite communist countries are now better off than we are. English independence means lords and serfs, 20% more land owned by the rich in the since 2018, trillions of debt left to a future generation, an emerging police state. In Stalin's Russia groups of 15 had to have special permission, here it is 6 and you would be arrested.

Canada, india, pakistan, israel, the US, ireland, australia, new zealand.... you sound like a longterm chain smoker whinging about the unfairness of having crocked lungs.

The part of me that thinking an independent England is the way forward is also the part of me that I have to truly examine at times. The UK actually works quite well. It creaks along, the balance appears to be about right and whilst it clearly needs some tinkering, we got more right than wrong. I would not like to see Scotland go. I fear a SNP/Labour coalition but that is just the slings and arrows of our electoral system. And also if the Scots did not vote for independence with oil at over £100 a barrel and all the expectations of it being only on an upward trajectory, then they are not going to vote for it now. The party would not be worth the hangover and they know it.

The history of our islands is that we all invaded each other eventually the English came out on top so we are guilty of being better at it than the rest. Edited by Badger11 (27 Sep 2020 12.16pm)

If the native English wish to survive as the majority in their own country they have to undertake measures to ensure that and fast....just as Israel did recently. Otherwise the English are going the way of Tibetans in Tibet. But unlike the Tibetans, the English did this to themselves...or rather let their elites do it to them....they never asked the public of course. So, thinking in terms of 'English' now is almost quaint....a train that left the station decades ago.

I must admit I'm surprised to read this post from you. Firstly there was no 'Scotland' or Wales existing as an independent country from England back then. These lands were all in play.....So you are guilty of historical revisionism here. The English also won wars against invading armies looking to take the country...which included the Scottish I might add. You appear to attack the English for winning wars rather than losing them. Also out of the countries you listed none of them officially fought us for independence other than the US. Also you seem to think it legitimate that these countries gained independence yet don't think it legitimate for the English because of what elites did hundreds of years ago? Are you a leftist now? We do historical revisionism because it was all b****x in the first place..... I don't think people wanting to be free of us is 'leftie' it is just common sense. Never mind, after all the brexit pay-offs are completed, there will still be a hole in the undergrowth near Wisbech. Mind you, you will have to share it with a Latvian.
