A couple of days ago I entered a flat which had been occupied by someone who had dogs. It was so bad that the carpet was actually alive! Anyhow, I had them all over me and needless to say some have followed me home and it’s grossing us out. We don’t have pets so have never had this. Have vacuumed continuously but still finding the odd one. Does anyone have any ideas/experience how to get rid?

Sorry to hear your news. As a former cat owner I know that animals can find "guests". May I recommend that you have a trip to Caterham on the Hill and collect an aerosol from the Vet on the Hill. What they stock is nice a lethal. Good Luck.

Lots of flea sprays on the market, if you don’t have pets they will be gone in no time

Telephone number 01883 341 306. You will need to telephone - do your transaction without entering the clinic - and pick up the spray from a table outside. I think the local pub is the Kings and Queens - Fullers.

Don't buy anything from retail/on-line. Whatever you use needs to be bought from a vet outlet. Bob Martins and such is shyte. Wrong thread also :P Edited by Tim Gypsy Hill '64 (23 Sep 2020 12.27am)

We used a type of heat lamp ( specifically to catch fleas), plug it in and the fleas are attracted to the light. Worked really well and no smelly sprays involved. If I can find a link to one will post it

in the late 1800 early 1900 they use to light sulphur candles at one end of a terrace block , which would drive the fleas into the next house . this did not kill them but meant the first house had a rest from fleas for up to a month . terrace blocks were long in those dim and distance days .

I had infestations a couple of times. I used the really expensive (I think banned in Ireland) spray from the vets, as advised. It was at least 25 a can, I think more. Ask the vet for instructions as this stuff has none, if you have the right stuff.

My comments could be complete sheite, but posted from an addled memory. Fleas need a permanent animal host to feed on their blood (pet). Fleas can survive for a short time on carpets and furniture, where they might lay eggs. The good thing is you do not have a pet. off-the-shelf stuff in shops doesn't work. Just get some flea spray from the nearest vets, and spray all your soft furnishings.
I disengage, I turn the page. |
