Well well well. Local villages supplied the labour for the white farmers. When the whites were kicked out Mugabe should have given the land to those locals who had worked it and did have an idea about farming. It would have been difficult for the rest of the world to argue against that. Instead he turned them over to his rebel mates who were not local to the area and didn't have a clue. Instead of them making nice with the locals and working together these rebels drove the locals off the land. Then they realised they didn't have a clue how to farm and no farm workers, it went downhill from there. Zimbabwe was known as the bread basket of Africa let's hope it is soon leaving up to that name again. Edited by Badger11 (01 Sep 2020 8.40pm)

This president might be sensible because it makes economic sense but eventually it'll be open season again. Personally I say Africans should run Africa....not the Chinese, US, British or the Boer (Dutch). Help them if asked reasonably but they should run it all....and really sort their own problems out.

The Chinese are the latest in a long line of imperialists to take advantage. They are buying up everything but it comes with a political price. As you say far better if we let the locals just get on with it.

I used to work with White Zimbabwean farmers in the UK, with certain training. Got to know a lot of them well. Terrible stories of what was happening to them: they wanted to protect their homes and families and who could blame them? There are surely not many left and why would anyone white go there at all. I noticed the Zimbabwean embassy in London advertising tourism there, yeah right. How much will I have to pay my full security detail, unless they are going to let me carry personal weapons? That plus the corrupt officials at every turn.

If we still made anything, we would need foreign raw materials and would probably be involved.

The chinese owning Africa. Paying armed heavies from country x to be the muscle in country y. And vice versa.
