Can anyone as old as me remember wearing black and white scarves to Palace or am I going mad? It would have been between 1958 - 1962 when we were wearing black shorts and black and white socks? I would have been about 8... does anyone remember?

Probably a bit later too. I can remember turning up for a home game against Newcastle in about 1965 and being cheered by a group of their fans as they thought I was one of them. By then we where playing in an all white strip.

I went to the Palace in the first post ww2 season and we played in black and white for a few seasons before we went back to claret and blue.

In the Johnny Byrne era we played in black and white again with a claret and blue band across the chest.

Utmost respect to all the posters on this thread. That’s some serious years of following us.

Go to bottom of home page, click History, click Classic Kits, search 1950-1959 & there you will find 5 black n white kits of the era.

Yes, my mother knitted me a scarf in those colours. It was the only one I ever saw - not surprisingly, I suppose. I remember proudly wearing it when I hitch-hiked with a friend to scunthorpe to see us lose 0-1 in the 3rd round of the Cup. That was January 1960. I still have the programme (but not the scarf!).

Yep,I'm another one from the black and white brigade. Jack Edwards would no doubt have been my first Palace favourite, when we played in that strip, along with George Cooper,Alfie Noakes and later Johnnie Byrne. I do remember one of Byrnes early games where his shorts got ripped, and just got changed in the middle of the pitch to cheers from the crowd.Vic Rouse became our goalie around the time Johnnie Byrne started to amaze us with skills that made him such a stand out player, who at the time, we knew was destined for bigger and better things. Very happy days.

My favourite Palace shirt. A similar one with red and blue across the chest should be used. Perhaps I should suggest it to Steve!

Thanks to Tom-the-Eagle for respecting the time threaders have spent supporting our beloved Palace. Bless my Dad for moving out of the East End to Croydon as I was in grave danger of becoming a 'Spammer'.... There is only one club CPFC, COYP

Are you sure this wasn't just in the days before you had a colour telly?
