OK, English is a dynamic language that changes over time. that is Colour and Petrol to us English. And what really peeves me at the moment , is that the BBC are using the term "pedophile" (you know the case). And Illegal immigrant from the up to the 1980's, is now an economic migrant. trash-talk It really started to irk when the US invaded EEErack. Not to be confused with Iraq. I shouldn't berate the US, as most UK citizens seem to have a minimal grasp of the language.

Yep it swings both ways I'm afraid. You'll have a BBC presenter who can pronounce a village of 350 people in the foothills of Afghanistan perfectly to the vowel, yet insist on calling Los Angeles, Los Angelees.

This lead to that happening, for instance. It may be just bad use of the English language or yet another Americanism, but the word is LED, not lead. Jesus H.

I just don’t want anyone British to say to me Unlikely but I don’t want anyone saying it to me. Hearing it in a queue is bad enough.

As American English evolved, the Yanks kept quite a few words and spellings that are now considered archaic in British English, such as them calling what we call Autumn 'Fall'.

The influence of Americanisms has been apparent since at least WW2. I think I might be right in saying that using contractions like 'CAN'T and WON'T became more common due to American influence during the War and after.

You can also add "Soccer" to that list. It was an english term for the "beautiful game" which came as a form of abbreviating "association football".

Pronunciations are what bother me. U.S. pronounciation. Schedule - skedule. Privicy - pryvicy. Controversy - contraversy. As mentioned, Iraq/Iran - Eyeraq/Eyeran.

Watch old programmes and route rhymes with tooth. Then it became route like out. Today router sounds like outer.
