I am fed up of seeing people bake or bring in cakes to work its usually the incompetent idiots at there jobs who bring or bake cakes to butter people up at work and after that they seem to become bulletproof through out there careers and always seem to get undeserved promotions, I can see through the brown nosers why don't hr departments and managers.

I assume you work in the public sector ? Where mediocrity is rewarded and hardworking talent is not welcome.

I’d love to have your problems

I recall in bygone days hearing that the done thing in a particular department was for a staff member celebrating his/her birthday to provide cakes for one's work colleagues.

I heard that instead of boxes of cakes, some gentleman once brought in a packet of marshmallows for his staff, they were certainly not best pleased and he was told in no uncertain terms to go out and to purchase some cakes!

Don’t judge all public sector workers by the picture painted in the media. I am not saying that all workers are good but there is certainly some very talented people that I have worked with.

So are you saying public sector workers don’t work hard? You do know what professions are regarded as public sector, right?

I am happy if we all have a fair system where we all contribute a small amount of money and it stays within our own members of the team and its just for birthdays nothing else, it's when people then invite others to come into our office and have a cake from other departments, people who bake cakes and do it off there own backs usually to gain favour,
We had a flower fund in work there are 2 males and 5 women in our office, me and the other bloke were pissed off to see they were buying flowers and cards for other people from other departments.

My experience of the public sector is there are some hard workers who do work hard but unfortunately there are a lot of mickey takers who wouldn't last 5 minutes in the private sector. Unfortunately there is a bad culture which rewards bad behaviour and some very poor management which promotes it.

I guess Covid means the cakes at work need to be quarantined for 14 days so no more fresh bake.
