The terrorist demanded that the president of Ukraine publish his message that "All people should watch Earthlings". Surprisingly enough the president did publish the message.

He also demanded that senior politicians state that they are all terrorists. They didn't do that though.

We had a nice barbeque at the weekend but I sympathise with your desire to see animals treated humanely.

Funnily enough, so did we.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

I think someone who holds people hostage and threatens to kill them so he can get his way is the answer.

I very much support the view that animal cruelty is an outrage, however acts like this do nothing, imo, to promote that cause. As with the animal rights activists in the U.K, by breaking the law they discredit what they are trying to achieve.
Having said that, the conditions some animals are kept in are appalling and totally unacceptable

Agree with you on this. I dont think there's any need to perform extreme acts. The truth is on the side of justice and people fighting for the rights of animals need to highlight the truth. Most people don't want to see it and when they do many are shocked/horrified. There are people who don't care but I think that is changing.

I think it is a matter of time before people accept that the way we are living and treating animals has to change. The vegan movement is relatively young even though the ideas have been around for thousands of years and only with the advent of the internet have people been able to see how animals are treated and question what is going on.
The more informed that people are the more likely they are to question the meat and dairy industry and begin to change.

Yeah, fair play.
I do believe though that future generations will look back on us and question many of the things that we deem as normal especially and not restricted to our treatment of animals and the planet.

The problem is that the majority of people like to eat meat. They really do dislike the modern farming methods, but don't really want to pay for the improvements. Hypocrites maybe, but that's the market force.

Not eaten meat since I was eighteen btw.

I sympathize with the treatment of animals and while this has somewhat been improved in the west it's never going to be acceptable to many....in some cases me included.

However, humans are evolved to eat meat and while veganism can suit some it isn't going to be the answer to this problem.

The answer to this will be technological......automation will make cloned meat so cheap for the consumer that the farming and meat industry will disappear.

However, that would also put a huge number of people out of work without any obvious switch for many.

You will also get a lot of angry religious people from a couple of religions I can think of.

Unfortunately, all the time there are people who make fortunes from the things that are bad in the world they will continue happening. Unless something significant changes, those people will always exist and the underlying issues whether they be fossil fuels, greenhouse gasses, polluted seas/rivers, enforced labour, poverty will be around for a while.

Whilst you are probably correct (as it is the natural step for a civilised world), I just cannot see the changes you are predicting happening for many generations. Someone needs to sort out China for a start and I can't see that happening any time soon.

Yeah, I understand that the taste generally overrides the ethical issues and most people disagree with many modern farming methods. I hope that as vegan options become more widely available and more people start choosing them that it will become easier for people to transition and we can see a shift in people's dietary choices.
That's not to say I would like to see farmers put out of work but that they would transition away from farming animals to farming vegetables or other types of work which matches the changes in demand.
