Let's start with the Guardian newspaper. Funded by a cotton ( picked by slaves ) merchant who was anti Abraham Lincoln and was critical of the leaders of the Peterloo protest. Yet today the paper is a refuge of columnists who make a good living promoting whatever left wing cause is the dish of the day and generally slagging off the UK. The level of hypocrisy is hilarious. Now, they cannot use the " that was in the past " arguement.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Every account of those events that I've ever read states that that cotton merchant was so determined that the country should know the truth about what had happened that he wrote his own report and got it to London overnight before the government could publish its own lying version. He later founded the Manchester Guardian as a reformist newspaper. (By the way, I despise the Guardian for what I see as its prejudiced reporting, verging on dishonesty.)

He was certainly critical of Lincoln and made his money in the cotton trade. Seems he supported the slave trade to me, unless the lefties can put another slant on it? Wissie/Maple the floor is yours

The guy who came after the original owner was the one that set the tone of the Guardian as a radical left paper. I think the original owner was radical to a point but then you could argue that Donald Trump is radical, radical doesn't mean left wing.

Wissie/Maple the floor is yours "I am not nor ever have been in favour of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people.... There is a physical difference between the white and black races which in my judgement will probably forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality.. And.. Our republican system was meant for a homogeneous people. As long as blacks continue to live with the whites they constitute a threat to the national life. Family life may also collapse and the increase of mixed breed b******s may some day challenge the supremacy of the white man. Abraham Lincoln.

My source for Peterloo is only wikipedia " Taylor witnessed the Peterloo massacre in 1819, but was unimpressed by its leaders, writing:[3] They have appealed not to the reason but to the passions and the suffering of their abused and credulous fellow-countrymen, from whose ill-requited industry they extort for themselves the means of a plentiful and comfortable existence But the radical press in Manchester, in particular the Manchester Observer did support the protests, and it was not until the Observer was closed by successive police prosecutions that the road was clear for a newspaper closer to Taylor's liberal-minded mill-owning friends.[4] The Mike Leigh film was a mix of history and propaganda made to make Islington Socialists feel even better about themselves In 1821 the members of the Little Circle excluding Cowdroy backed John Edward Taylor in founding the Manchester Guardian, published by law only once a week, which Taylor continued to edit until his death.
Later this morphed into Union subs, Labour party subs, etc This has never changed, Scargill, Kinnocks, Blairs, other top union officials. left wing journos etc etc Quite prophetic Are you sure?
