Just scanning the site I saw our average attendance list. Season 83 through to 88 didnt top 10k. One year was less than 6.5k.
That was when the ground was 51000 capacity. I remember those halcyon days and the jokes going round about put an x where the fan was going to stand and shouting across the pitch to lock up when you leave. That's when the away end was the quadrant by the arthur and holmsdale. A coach load of fans sometimes. Ahh the innocence

our capacity was about 30k back then - the whitehorse had been demolished and was being replaced by the family stand - still it was more a case of 'spot the crowd' than spot the ball, the wheels really came off, strange how the support disappeared so drastically, I think footy crowds generally were a bit lower, but people gave up on the club after the Bloye implosion, we haven't fully recovered, and we won't have done until we get a decent ground to fill

Watching the youtube video on here of Palace against Wolves illustrates how far we fell in the space of 2 years further compounded by the appointment of the Antichrist Mullery as manager. I cannot remember one positive of when he was in charge. Every game was depressing.

I remember one match for one incident - opponent and score both lost - when Mullery was shouting instructions from the bench and a voice rang out from the Arthur “For fvck sake Mullery will you SHUT UP”. It was as though someone had yelled out in a library.

Don’t remember the opponents as was only a kid back then but whoever our keeper was at the time (May have been Barron) ran in to the post and knocked himself out. He was spark unconscious.
The ref and all the players stood round him looking worried, then the ambulance guys rushed on but still no sign of life.

Next thing you know, Mullery has left the dugout and is sprinting across the pitch towards him in a sheepskin coat and sun glasses. Literally at the point when he gets to the goal the keeper springs himself up on his feet like a f@cking jack in a box, obviously still not fully compos mentis, it was like a miracle.

Will never forget as the bloke in front of me as quick as you like shouts out ‘he must of showed him his wallet’

I did set off to go to Shrewsbury, I believe in the 80s, but heard en-route that the game was postponed due to snow so had to return home.

I recall going to the Manor Ground in the 70s to see our team play Oxford Utd who were then managed by Gerry Summers.Don Rogers scored and I have a feeling it was a 1-1 draw but it is so long ago so the score might be incorrect.
