Just watched the 1st series on Netflix it showed what can happen when teams spend to much Jonnnie Williams came across as decent bloke and was quite impressed with Chris Coleman despite not being able to save them from Relegation. Would he be a possible replacement as manager when Roy eventually steps down

Chris Coleman took over at Sunderland when they were rock-bottom after 17 games. He left a game before the end of the season with Sunderland still in bottom place.

Jonny Williams was at Sunderland on loan but he was brought in by Simon Grayson.I don't think Sunderland paid any money for a player when Coleman was in charge. He signed LuaLua on a 'Free' from Brighton but the rest were all loan signings.

Just started watching series 2 and it seems that David Brent has bought the club ! It's a good watch though, gives a good insight to how this football thing works, definitely something NOT to invest in.

I am with you on that Punk - my word some of the things that you see in that program beggers belief & thats just a program about one club, I suspect many more clubs out there have their own problems - when I was younger in transport there was a joke - how do you make a small fortune out of transport ? the answer was , start with a bigger fortune - it surely applies to football clubs too

Only up to ep5 of season 1 but think it's really good. Although it is a bit like watching a car crash as you know what is going to happen to the club. Just shows how poorly informed some of the powerful decision makers are at relatively big clubs.

Glad our Jonny Williams comes across well, always seemed like a genuinely nice fella.

A couple of other notable (slightly older) football documentaries I'd definitely recommend watching are:

Chester City: An American Dream
[Link]

Orient: Club for a Fiver
[Link]

Unbelievable characters and dialogue in both - feels like you are watching a spoof at times. Got to feel for the fans though.

working through second series realise our chairman is not is a decent bloke. Yes the football under Roy is solid rather than exciting and not getting loads of big transfers in before deadline was not what I wanted. But after seeing how Sunderland got shafted when there forward Madja went to France for next to nothing and then having to pay at least a million quid more than he was worth to get Will Griggs,I have new found respect for Palaces management team.

Everything that happened to Sunderland can be blamed on fans leaving well before the end of games like the blblical Exodus.

Maja who was born in Lewisham was in our youth team.

He had a decent scoring record at Sunderland with an average of slightly better than a goal every 3 games.
His salary was less that £1,000 a week and I believe he cost Bordeaux £1.5 Mill where his salary has increased by over 50 times!

Will Grigg was signed for an initial £3 Mill rising to I believe £4 Mill. He's not really 'Cut the mustard' at Sunderland.

The Maja transfer really highlighted the b****** nature of agents. Losing him pretty much cost them promotion, and the behind the scenes footage shows the consequences with jobs etc in doing so. Really good series. The Will Grigg transfer saga encapsulates the dilemma when it comes to spending cash in this game.
