Something tells me a lot of budgets airlines will disappear through bankruptcy due to covid19, and only the big major national airlines will survive, could the end of people flying regularly be over and only the elites have the means? Does make me wonder as so much has been said and protested about global warming and the impact of so many flights around the world by climate activist. I fear lots of changes to the way we live are on the card in the years to come.

UEFA/FIFA have said they are holding video conferences rather than flying to a meeting point. Gives you an idea of how much cash they are spunking needlessly on other corporate stuff. Video-conferencing should be standard practice for international organisations, regardless of Corona-virus. My brother-in-law got promotion last year, he works as ground staff for Virgin Airways. It seemed a cushy job. Now all Virgin staff are to take 8 weeks unpaid leave in the next 6 months. So his wage packet will be two-thirds of what he normally has for the next 6 months.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

The real pain will come when the airlines have to start refunding flight costs for cancelled flights. I currently have two flights booked with Ryanair and one with Easyjet and will reschedule one to later in the year but there is a limit to the number of holidays that I can take in October so I'll want a refund on the other two

My tour operator offered me a full refund or a credit note for 110% of the value of the holiday. That would mean an extra £500 at least. I took the refund (haven't received it yet) as I am not sure about the creditor situation. If they go bust will I be protected or am I just one of many creditors? I didn't want to take the risk annoying because I hope to do that holiday later in the year and the £500 would have covered the monies I am not going to get back but bird in the hand... If anyone knows the answer to this please post too late for me but others will no doubt be offered similar deals.

General rule of thumb is, that if you've booked a package holiday, as long as the company is ATOL protected you WILL get a full refund if things go tits up. If you've booked a 'Flight Only' deal you are only covered if you paid by credit/debit card OR you have adequate insurance cover. British Airways are offering their pax a voucher for the cost of your flight to be used within 12 months. I was due to fly back home next tues, but am going to take BA's offer & re-book when restrictions have been lifted. Spain is on lockdown & The EU is meeting to discuss closing ALL borders for 30 days. I have a holibob booked in early May to Tenerife &, so far, its still going ahead(fingers X'd).

I think you made the right choice also. What if the 110% value does not cover the cost of the holiday in the brave new future....if we travel less what will the costs be like higher or lower?? We are all in this for the long haul(no pun intended) so your travel might not happen till next year anyway Originally posted by Badger11

IF, you've paid by credit/debit card then that is another safeguard. Most people only get insurance for their particular holiday & thats it. In most cases it wont cover for things like this & airlines failing(unless ATOL protected). Its an expensive minefield out there especially at the moment. Stay safe people.
