what is it with palace and corners?? we have no idea how to score from one. when ever the ball goes out for one i don't get the slightest bit excited any more as i know 100% it will result and feck all

i heard a stat the other day that we have had over 100 corners this season and not scored from a single one.... it would be interesting to know when we last scored from one

can any internet boffs dig out a chart showing how many corners each prem side has had and how many goals they've scored?? surely we're bottom

Sorry no proof - just remember the bloke behind me saying, ironically: "Corner! As good as a goal at the Palace" and we scored shortly thereafter. Cant for the life of me remember the game but we dont score that many so it shouldn't be hard to figure out. That said - you've got me thinking....

We're going to sign Harry Kane to take them

Something we've been bad at for years.
In theory, I think we should be pretty good. With Benteke, Sakho, Thompkins, Kouyate.

We do have the man who got Harry Kane to take corners in charge though. England became really good at corners under his successor.

I heard we hadn't scored on one all year, and it's been around 100 attempts.

Part of it is Luka is awful at corners. He kicks them dead straight, and usually nowhere near any of our players. I've started watching to see how many corners a Palace player actually touches, and it's very few. It usually goes straight into defenders and is booted or headed away easily.

Another issue is I have to believe we have a terrible strategy for having players run onto corners. If you blindfolded the guy taking corners, you'd think you'd score in 1 out of 100 chances just from random luck.

Much like the rest of our game, our players look like they stand stationary, rather than running into the area at different times or places. I could be wrong, but other teams look much better at sending players into the area.

PVA looked good when he took a corner. It will be interesting with Luka out to see who takes them, and I assume whoever it is will do better than Luka does, because it can't really be worse.

2017 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Middlesboro
2018 Jan. (Sako) Palace 1 - 0 Burnley
2019 May (Batshuayi, Batshuayi, OG, Van Aanholt, Townsend) Palace 5 - 3 Bournemouth
2020 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Newcastle

Luca tends to chip the ball in whereas a ball sent in at pace can often cause more problems for the defence.

They are chipped / floated in with no curve on them, probably the easiest dead ball situation for a defender to read.

Townsend or PVA should probably take the corners when fit, Luka is terrible, as are his bloody free kicks which rarely hit the target. Yesterday’s effort must have missed the goal by two metres. It’s just not good enough.

It would be interesting to know what the overall rate is for goals scored from corner kicks for all teams in the Premier League. It may not be as high as one imagines.

Going back a couple of seasons, when WBA were in the PL I believe 10% of their corner kicks led to goals which was the highest percentage for that season.Think the next highest was around 7% whilst bottom was Man C with £1.5%.
Ours was 4.1%.
Generally I recall the % figures were quite small.
