The Mail reports Palace, Burnley and Villa are interested in this 21 year old Nigerian striker who has scored six goals so far this term for Bordeaux and was previously prolific for Sunderland. He was born in Lewisham and was on Palace's books briefly before registering with Fulham and spending time at Man City on loan.

Done well in France, but would you really bring in a 21 year old for the most important position in the team, which was the worst performing in the last years? When you have Benteke and Wickham, you don't just go with a 21 year old whose only 6 goals in a top division are those from Ligue 1. Let him grow, he could be great in the future. It's also not the right time to invest in him and loan him out, as he's too expensive.

Palace needs a center forward with more pedigree, who can come in and start scoring right away.

When I repeat what I've seen, I don't mean to imply it's a good thing necessarily. Roy made it clear he's expecting players he can field within days of arrival. My own view is the striker will arrive as part of a deal which sees Wilf depart - and I'm hoping he won't be altogether new.

But surely if he progresses he will be too expensive for us, wouldn't he? I seem to remember we were linked with him when he was at Sunderland. Hasn't the club stated that they are looking to buy young players this window?

Young is one thing. A 21 year old center forward, in the position most exposed, is another. Club can buy young right back, left back, wingers. But notvcebter forward.

And I don't mean an old one should come. But one between 23 and 28 years old, who actualy is a prolific goalscorer, is a necessity.

Maja is expensive now because he has just recently signed with Bordeaux, ha s alot of years left on his contract and is annew teen sensation with 6 goals in Ligue 1. His value will go down the closer he gets to the end of his contract and especially as he doesn't keep being the "new next Mbappe at 21 years old". By 23 he should have a more grounded price.

That approach didn't quite work out with Benteke unfortunately. And I think the board are wary of this. The only player who fits this bill who I could see us trying for is Batshuayi as he's tried and tested and less of a risk.

I'd be very happy if all of our signings are under 23 during this window. I feel we've got enough experienced pros within the team to help any new youthful recruits bed in. Considering our relatively healthy position I'd say this is the perfect opportunity to try and draft in a few with the future on mind. Obviously they'll still need to be the right recruits though not just any old youngster.

What approach? Benteke was a 30+ million signing. How is that approach similar to waiting for a player's price to decrease, become more realistic, like I suggested?

Then you don't know a lot of players. There are many players who could come in and start scoring right away for a normal transfer price (not ridiculously inflated).

I'd be very happy with that too. Just not the center forwards.

for me, if we are going to take a punt on a kid with no PL experience we may as well use pierrick as he a)free & b)already bedded into the club.

it also gives hope to the other academy kids that there is a route to the 1st team.

would be a expensive pointless signing

- I was referring to your suggested strategy of trying to buy a proven goalscoring 23-28 yr old. Our attempt at that has not paid off.

- I certainly wouldn't claim to know about as many players as you but I'd be interested in reading your suggestions of an affordable, proven goalscorer of the right age who could come straight into a premiership side and start scoring immediately.

ps as you can see I don't know how to do that clever multiple reference/ quote/ reply

You have to copy the first line part, the one between [] with the name of the user who you want to quote every time before the part you want to quote. And also the ending with the [/ quote ] every time at the end.

About the center forwards, I'd name Edouard (20+ million), Morelos at a similar price but he's more of a second striker at his height so I'll just talk about center forwards, Tiquinho Soares and Bounnedjah (15 million), David Okereke (15 million), Quaison (Mainz, 10 million), Nsame (Switzerland 20 goals in 4 months scorer, 10 million), Fernando Karanga (5 million), Andrasz Sporar (very good underrated player who I can guarantee would be good in the PL, 5 million), Cedric Itten (5 million), Diallo (Ligue 1, 5 million), Swierczok (Bulgaria, 5 million), Antonio Colak (Croatia, 3 million).

You flood us with information apropos a plethora of players and expend significant effort in doing so.You must have listed around 50 thus far and the transfer window has just opened !

I am just interested as to whether you have actually seen the majority of them play and the basis for the valuations against each player. Is it your estimate your is it a 'Market value' provided by some software package or website which also lists an array of players for each position ?

I have no issue with using the relevant 'Tools' in this manner to try and enlighten us all and maybe those who have the inclination to peruse the ever increasing list of players might find the information valuable in their quest to broaden their knowledge of players who plough their furrows abroad.
