Despite all the concerns of so many fans, it seems to be transpiring that the summer was not so bad after all. Luka signed a new 4 year contract, Ayew has proved to be a snip at £2.5m - the reputed fee, Cahill has proved excellent and McCarthy looks a good addition as well. Granted the Camarasa situation has seemed odd and the third goalkeeper has not been required as yet.
Additionally, it appears there is a lot of flexibility within the current squad and both Kelly and Jeff S look perfectly competent full backs - maybe not so surprising as the latter was first choice under Allardyce in that position I seem to recall and Kelly played a lot for Liverpool in that position.
Perhaps of more importance is the obvious togetherness within the squad and you never hear of any discontent getting into the public domain. Roy's man management skills appear to be of the highest order and securing him for a further period seems incredibly important.
Also, of course, Zaha must in retrospect be delighted he didn't join Everton despite the transfer request and the £50m for Wan Bissaka after one season in the PL seems like a sound deal.
All in all, it suggests some steady judgement behind the scenes - whether that be Parish, Freedman or Hodgson or perhaps a combination of all three.
Certainly, another striker option would be helpful in January but even that is not looking as dire as predicted.

I agree with many of the points, BUT… let’s be honest. Had we lost Wilf at the end of the window, it’s unlikely that we’d be doing quite as well as we are; and there’s an argument that Everton wouldn’t be as low as they find themselves currently.

Speculation like this means very little. I even argue that Wilf is the kind of player that may well have kept Silva in his job (FTR, I’ve been of the opinion that the man is a fraud after is Hull stint; he most probably would have added nothing to his development. Definitely less than Roy).

We were very lucky to keep hold of Wilf in the summer, but he’ll probably be off this summer coming. He will STILL go with my blessing.

Kelly must be the most underrated player at the club.
Most people’s centre back starters at the beginning of the season would have been Tompkins and Sakho , best this season has been Cahill and Kelly.
Not sure that McCarthy has been any better than average she. He was played though.

Well Zaha didn’t go , so irrelevant point. He is going every window, but never does, getting a bit tedious.

Everton have good players, but an overrated crap manager, Zaha would make no difference at all.

What is not genuine about a full back that played in that position for Liverpool and England with another that played full back in Premier title winning team?

I think the injuries now are showing exactly why we needed two new full-backs. And if something happens to Ayew and we're forced to play Benteke up front...
