Do referees try to appease the crowd? Do they show favouritism? Are they influenced by the reputation of players or mangers? Are they narcisstic control-freaks?

Plaudits to sports science lecturer Stuart Carrington who explores these and other questions in his newly-published, paperback entitled Blowing The Whistle - The Psychology of Football Refereeing.

It's good stuff and touches on many of the controversies that crop up again and again in Holmesdale Online message board threads.

I'm a referee, I challenge you to quantify that statement, and back it up as I am none of those things nor do I show favouritism.

All this conspiracy theory stuff about referee's might sell books but most of it is utter bollox

I think that the OP was referring to Premiership referees not those in the local park

I want to know how VVD got away with that foul last night when they were 2-1 up. Should have been a penalty and therefore changing the games outcome had it been scored,

So, what about us that referee'd in the EFL & Europe then are we excluded & escape the vitriol that is dished out?

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

I think we are talking about proper referees mate, those in the Premier league games, not Sunday in the park.....I challenge you to prove that you dont show any of those traits!!
