Always saw Bromley as a wealthy and safe neighbourhood. 30 or 40 years ago it was in the Premier League of neighbourhoods. But i get the distinct impression that its not as nice as it used to be ?

Did David Bowie take a little piece of it with him ? Not so Hunky Dory. Did Siouxsie and the Banshees take a crispy aromatic duck from the Hong Kong Garden off to the Happy House and leave us alone and Spellbound ? Was HG Wells 'War of the Worlds' just a metaphor for urban decay ?

A big stabbing there last night (Beckenham).

A bloke robbing the jewellery store in broad daylight with various onlookers last month.

There are some less salubrious areas skirting Bromley.

I recall those halcyon days in the late 70s/early 80s when I used to frequent discos such as 'Bibas' and visited drinking establishments in the town centre - never witnessed any disturbances at all.

i once enjoyed a slap across the face from a pretty bird at Bibas. I cannot even remember what i said to provoke her. Sigh, happy days.

Nobody's allowed to say what's happened.

It’s no different to what’s happened to every other neighbourhood in the country, however there are enough threads on here already that cover that subject.

Bromley is going rough because it's so f*cking boring, the same happened to Orpington and is happening to Kingston-upon-Thames for the same reason, first stagnant then sterile until ultimately the underlying ghastliness expresses itself

We moved from Beckenham 18 years ago and it was in decline then. Bromley always had its share of scumbags but like most places, it has got worse.
I wonder why?

What's happening to Bromley is criminal 'tourism'...kids from inner London coming in for easy pickings...surprised it's taken so long.

You see a lot of this in Beckenham on Friday and Saturday night groups of lads from other areas. There is often trouble as rival groups face off.

The stabbing in Beckenham was actually Churchfields road near the waste dump. Personally I would call that Penge but then again I am a bit of a snob. I think these days you can get stabbed anywhere and at anytime it doesn't mean its a bad area.

Bromley’s alright. It’s the biggest Borough in London, so I don’t think there’s that much trouble.
The fella smashing the jewellers was mentally ill and got held down by passers by until he was nicked.
Stabbing a and shootings on the radio 20 years ago were usually Brixton and Peckham, now they are spread out.
Fella that works for me , his brother in law got killed by a targeted car crash 2 weeks ago in BexleyHeath. The car drove at them as one of the blokes he was walking along with owed the men in the motor £200. Wrong place at the wrong time.

Because you aren't there to badger all the bad guys into submission, clearly.
