What a depressing experience. I hardly ever take the train for anything. On a train up to town as I wrote this though. Glad I don’t have to do this everyday.

I recall the 'Slam door' trains during the period when guards used to alight at a station, wave to the driver to signal he/she could move and get back on whilst the train was in motion.Always though that one day the guard wouldn't make it back to the train !

Saw a nasty incident involving a slam door train during the morning commute years ago. Train arrives and the doors open outwards hitting a bloke square in the face who was standing on the platform waiting to get on knocking him out cold. Always thought it was daft to have doors like that but health and safety was just an afterthought back then.

Always thought it was daft to have doors like that but health and safety was just an afterthought back then. One could open the slam-doors whilst the train was in motion. Many moons ago an old colleague in a temulent state after large consumptions of alcohol opened the door and leapt out of train at East Croydon station as it was pulling in to where he intended to alight, thinking it was leaving the station. He crashed on to the platform with an almightly thud and did damage to both his knees.

i got battered by one at east croydon when the plum let the door open and it hit me on the back...but then jumping on the train whilst moving with door open as it just started to leave happy days, almost as cool as jumping on the back of a moving routemaster!
Sometimes I set out for Ludlow |
