Released 50 years ago today. What an album. So who’s had their picture taken on the crossing? Guilty. Is it possibly the most iconic album cover of all time? Must be up there. The cover led to rumours that McCartney had died. All very odd. Long live the Beatles. Britain’s greatest export.

I was very late to the Abbey Road party, but I agree that it's a great album. I actually prefer Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, but that may be due to its greater familiarity to me and memories it invokes.

Apparently they were originally going to call the album Everest (after the brand of cigarettes Geoff Emerick, the studio engineer, smoked) and planned to go to the Himalayas for a photo shoot. In the event they couldn’t be bothered so they went out into the street and had their picture taken there.

Worth buying just for George's 2 tracks but fortunately the rest is brilliant too. For the record, I love all their records but I rate Revolver as their best. In the past year I have really enjoying Beatles for Sale. Strange as this is probably the ond I've played the least over the years.

Yellow Submarine......though even that had the little known classic 'Hey Bulldog' on it.....lets not talk about the title track. If I had to rank the next least....White Album was patchy....and after that....I suppose Please Please Me was a bit patchy...classics sitting next to b-sides. But The Beatles have the highest consistency when it came to writing quality.....these albums are filled with standard after standard and even the fillers were better than most A sides from other bands. Yep, Revolver is very popular and is probably the most 'Lennon' album.. Many people say Beatles for Sale is their weakest and it sounds a bit rushed but I agree with you. I think Rubber Soul is great but is spoilt for me by the inclusion of Girl and Michelle, 2 of my least fave songs by them.

I have been lucky enough to go inside Abbey Road and listen to Paul Weller do a set in the studio that the Beatles recorded in. It a place full of history there are loads of photos of all the greats over the walls Plus there is a nice little bar downstairs. It wasn't until a little while after that I began to realise what an amazing experience it was. There is a web cam so you can watch the Crossing PS Cab drivers don't tend to stop at the crossing in fact I think they speed up

Sadly I am old enough to remember it being released. My personal favourites are Revolver and Rubber Soul. I also still enjoy Sgt Pepper's. A couple of years ago I saw a tribute act perform it in its entirety with a small string/wind section backing them. They made an excellent job of it too, and, strangely, the highlight was Within Without You. In fact the performance made me appreciate the whole album even more.
