Despite the United win, we are bang in trouble. Hodgson is on a tight rope and the players need to sort themselves out.

Deeply embarrassed by tonight’s result

They won’t be needing god. Just a decent defensive plan which will be the carbon copy doing the rounds. I hope I’m wrong and we go at them with some intensity and pace in moments when we can.

We've had a point to prove at home for ages, but Roy isn't, on the evidence, likely to be able to do it.

There were ten changes from Saturday’s win at United and three points against Villa are far more precious than progress in the Carabao Cup. I’d expect to see a far different performance.

I don’t know of any manager that would do better with the hand that Roy has been given. Our Premier League points tally since the turn of the year is impressive.

You make good points, only there are tweaks and things possible during matches that are never done. Swapping Zaha and Townsend, earlier subs, not just like for like and sometimes more defensive.

You’re right that Roy has had to work with little money, but it’ll be frustrating again if it’s just accepted we don’t pick up a point or 3 in any of f our league games because plan A didn’t work that week and the next and next home game. That’s very different to when Roy came in and had it even worse if you count no striker (Benteke) at all being worse and Zaha and Townsend aiming to arrive in the box.

P10 W3 D3 L4 (12 points out of 30), at home, "since the turn of the year", is poor by anyone's standard, any anyone who thinks it isn't is deluding themselves.

Villa look very good on the break, so they will probably be happy to let us come onto them. If that happens I think we'll lose. Hopefully we go with 4-5-1/4-3-3 approach again. If we shut down the midfield we should get at least a draw. The depressing thing is the only way I see us winning is by playing a slightly negative game.

I wouldn't read too much into last night as we were sh*t in almost every Carabao Cup game last season, we just dragged our depressing performances out over a few games. The players tend to look incredibly unmotivated and unprepared in the CC which probably points to how much the management care about it. For Roy it was probably more like giving a pre-season to some of the new boys and a signal to the board that they should have signed some fullbacks.

Not great but more than a point a game and combined with decent away form enough to keep us in the league.

Palace struggling to score a single goal and playing without any real heart? You can expect that performance for most of the season.

Not sure what your optimism is based on?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

We can only hope that they're feeling confident and positive and will come to attack us. If they sit back, they'll be given the obligatory Selhurst Park away clean sheet.

Listening to the post-match news conference Roy said Ward and Schlupp were carrying injuries. In the case of the former I hope it doesn't keep him out of Saturday given how well Kelly played alongside Cahill and our lack of other options. The highlights suggest Camarasa has the ability to create us chances (albeit this was against L2 opposition)
