Well it is forecast time and he has written a preview on us for the coming year, in the Guardian. 16th place and a quite thorough analysis IMHO.

Completely depends on what happens in the next week. RB, LB, striker and another attacking midfielder, and we'd have a great squad. Fail to get a RB and striker, or lose Zaha, and we're looking at relegation.

I really will be surprised if we sign a ready left back as backup though, with Schlupp as a utility backup already here.

If we get new players we could have a good team yes, but even if we don't we'd never be relegated with the actual team.

The counterpoint would be their first teams might not be as good but they have a better squad than us, which they keep on improving. Our squad is wafer thin and a few injuries away from crisis, hence Dom's prediction of us being right on the wire in terms of the relegation picture even with the first team quality.

From what I saw last season he was no better than WH - constantly beaten at his near post, poor distribution, rushing from his goal at wrong moments and flapping at crosses.

it does conjure up an amusing picture of Dougie and Parish looking at each other with blind enthusiasm, trying to look and sound like they have a plan, but really they have no idea of which players to target for recruitment and and how to get business done. it reminds me of a client I recently worked with - all chat but no idea of what they're saying or doing. It's amusing because it's clear that we have no workable system for recruiting players but I think on some level they think they do or convince themselves that there is a plan.

Reckon this assessment is about right - unless we get at least two decent additions in next week in which case we could be mid table.

Looking at Bournemouth, in pre-season they have gone down the route of signing young players in their early 20s IE Kelly,Stacey,Billing,Danjuma.

Which is exactly what I said, he thinks this team can end 15th = safe. Edited by Ian-VI (01 Aug 2019 11.48am)
