Seriously though, between him and Parish they are managing not a lot recruitment wise.

It needs calling out, worse than useless.

Damm, I thought you were going to say he'd been sacked

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

You maybe right however we don't know what restrictions he is working under or what players he has recommended.

For all we know the problem isn't him but the board or even Roy who won't sanction buying a certain player. It's all speculation however if he is really doing a bad job why doesn't Parish sack him?

Bournemouth last season signed David Brooks from Sheff Utd for a fee which could rise to £15 Mill and Chris Mepham from Brentford for £12 Mill.
Recently they signed left back Lloyd Kelly from Bristol C for £13 Mill and right-back Jack Stacey for £4 Mill.

I bumped into him a couple of weeks ago and ended up having quite a lengthy chat; was more than happy to talk about AWB’s move and stories of old players etc, but wouldn’t give anything away on incomings.

Interestingly mentioned that Parrish didn’t want to let AWB go at any cost, and that Dougie and Roy had to convince him to take the deal; felt the money was too good to turn down, but they also felt it set a bad precedent to all the other kids they are trying to push through the academy if we are going to deny them an opportunity to move on if they really flourish.

AWB had approached Dougie and Roy to say he wanted the move and they felt keeping a young player from making his dream move would be harmful to our recruitment/retention of young talent in the long run.

Agreed. You only have to look at Charlton they have a conveyor belt of young talent that progress into the first team and then get sold. Granted most are not PL standard and Charlton fans are not happy they are sold so quick but the point is well made. If I was a young lad I would rather sign for Charlton than Chelsea.

We need an edge in our recruitment if this is the carrot so be it.

Agreed - nothing wrong with players with elite-level potential seeing us as a good stepping stone... if it means we get 2-3 years out of them before they move on, it’s worthwhile.

I have similar doubts about ‘forcing’ Zaha to honour his contract if he really wants to go - what message does than send to any young player we are trying to recruit who has ambitions to play in the champions league?

Consider the following players from the Crewe academy who went on to forge careers at top level :
Rob Jones, Danny Murphy, Dean Ashton, Neil Lennon,David Platt Etc.

Crewe also had the likes of Geoff Thomas and John Pemberton who left for a bigger club ! And Bruce Grobbelaar was at loan at Crewe when Liverpool signed him.
