Well, it depends upon how much they are being paid by Barcelona SC for his loan. And then how much he can be sold on for in the end.

This one does look like it went wrong but it shouldn't be assumed that buying a player ineligible to play in England is automatically a bad idea. It may just be an investment that gives a good return in the longer run.
