A recent tweet got tongues wagging, but what are people's thoughts on Batshuayi? For me he was a bit of an enigma at the club; he scored goals, but when he wasn't scoring he often seemed to disappear with limited ability to hold up the ball or win aerial duels. I can see us making an offer as he is a known quantity, a bit like Sakho was, although his wages could be an issue. I see it as having the potential to be a bit like the Lukaku situation where he moved to Everton, got the game time and the goals and then secured a bumper transfer. If we could get him for 30m then I think it would be a good investment if we can afford it as proven top league strikers of his age don't come cheap and he probably would get us at least 10/15 goals a season.

Of course, given Chelsea's transfer situation he may not even be available, or they may want 40m+ (which would price us out).

I have mixed feelings about him. He is a good quality skillful player but I'm not sure you get 100% application from him quite enough, and whether, when you're up against it, he is the sort of bloke you'd want next to you in the trenches.

He likes to showboat a bit - fine if you are 4-0 up but not when you are chasing the game.

Having said that I wouldn't be disappointed if he came back for a further loan.

I mostly agree with OP - I'd be happy to have him up front, and we'd get a decent goal return, but often doesn't contribute quite enough to justify the fee we'd probably have to pay

Batman - No way Mitrovic would cost the same over 4 years taking into account fee and wage demands. Mitrovic will score more and is younger.

I think with Bats you know what you're getting.
He'll get you 15-20 goals, but wont contribute much to the overall play.
In the system we play which is generally a 442, im okay with him not being too involved in build up play as long as the other forward is.
A consistent goalscorer is a rare commodity and a good one is always going to cost a pretty penny.
For me id happily pay £30m - £35m for him based on the goalscoring ability alone.
He is on £90k per week at Chelsea, so may want a small increase (certainly not the £200k quoted in the press last year) to drop to a "lesser team" but im confident we could get his wages to be lower than Wilf & Benteke's.

Id take him over Mitrovic.

Good post,

Be surprised the worth of someone who just purely gets goals and as mentioned not many about.

I don't think he is a dead cert for 15-25 goals a season but could well be in that range. If we are going to spend some money this summer and this was on I would definitely support it.

Problem is I don't know if the player would be happy signing full time for Palace or that Chelsea would let let him go.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Not finished product and do we have the time to make him complete package not really also it would be stepping stone only.

He didn't do that much here some spells he looked good but he ended up being missing for a lot of the game.

The way we play doesn't suit these players at times and the forwards get very isolated.

His 6/7 goals did make a difference, and he is a player who knows the PL and the way Palace play. But we don’t even know yet whether he’s available or want to come back to Palace. But yes, I would be pleased if he did come back

If he's available, affordable, and wants to come it seems like a no brainer. Scores the goals that strikers should score. Unfortunately he is neither available, affordable, and may well not want to come back....

I'd also take Bats over Mitrovic,I think Bats would score more goals.

Looks unlikely that we'll get Batshuayi if this is to be believed:

The report makes sense. Chelsea can't buy anyone, they've lost Hazard and Higuian from last year, and so they only have Giroud as a senior striker. Abraham will likely get a chance but it would be surprising if they went into the season with just those two to call on.
