striker? Wrighty wingers? taylor rogers Zaha take your pick? full backs? Sansom and AWB centre backs? take your pick from cannon southgate coleman keepers? jacko martyn or jules … but when it comes to all time Palace XIs I always feel it's midfield where we're weakest … now we had the great Lombardo as a midfielder though he was a winger but one and a bit seasons isn't enough time to include him, similarly the best player I've seen in a Palace shirt is Gerry Francis who was immense in the 80-81 season sadly everyone else was either sh*te or f*cked off to QPR with Venables. In my all time XI I vote for Kember and Johnny Byrne as the midfield pairing, personally I can't put Geoff Thomas in there after that 'shot' against France at the old Wembley, Luka would have to be right up there, Cabaye not so, no, though he was more of an attacker (inside forward, correct me veterans if I'm wrong) though I never saw him play but with his longevity, top flight and international pedigree and apparent sublime skill our greatest midfielder vote goes to Johnny Byrne imho - your views please.

Dave Madden

Best player I've ever seen in the red and blue.

Completely changed our season when he came in to our team. Think we were about 12th at Christmas when Thomas got injured and Madden made the team. We went on an incredible run and ended up promoted (Madden scoring a pen in the play off final)
Had the lot, skill, passing and raw aggression.

Only been a fan since 92-93ish....but in my time, I think Luka is right up there. Other contenders aer Lombardo, Ambrose and Jimmy Mac I reckon.

Having Edgar Davids was obviously pretty special. Didn't do much for us though.

That was the rumour. Would explain why after an incredible run in the team he never really featured again afterwards.

Charlie Cooke for me but the problem with him is that the rest of the team didn't have his footballing brain.

Cooke would make a sublime pass for someone to run onto but the other player was too stupid to see what he was doing and the pass would be wasted.

Given that he was an integral part of both the '69 and '79 promotion winning teams, I would say Steve Kember.

This was also true with Lombardo. Technically possibly our best ever, however played in a poor team with teammates who often looked like they were on a different page.

Ability-wise I'd say Andy Gray. He could do whatever he wanted.

Just so happened he usually wanted to smash the ball halfway to moon, boot someone up the arse and then not run about too much.
