Not sure how to post a link so this may not work: I know there is a school of thought on here that, with the players we have (and the wage bill we have) we should be doing better than we are. A number of posters attribute that to Roy's negative and unimaginative tactics. But are we really under performing? I thought it would be interesting to compare league position with average home attendance. On that basis Watford and Bournemouth are over performing while West Ham, Newcastle and, yes, Brighton are definitely under performing. We are 15th for attendances but 13th on points. If anything we are punching slightly above our weight?

Think it's more about spend. Cannot find this season but looking at last we are around the right spot - 80 mill which is where you hit when you have been in the pl for a few years but with only about 6 teams below us. The big jump is to spurs on 120 mill then the rest of the top teams spend 200 mill plus. That puts it into perspective a bit.

Thing is, we chop and change, which is expensive. We get in Holloway, we go up. He signs players, how he came about them is a whole different story. Pulis comes in, does a remarkable job - he too signs players, Dann, Ledley and Henenrsey and the job is done we have a respectable finish. He then wants to implement his team - Campbell, Kelly. Then he's gone - Warnock comes in, very different manager. He brings in players like Zaha, Fryers and McArthur. Then we get Pardew and a whole different breed of player comes in. The likes of Cabaye, Wickham, Mutch, Souare, McCarthy, followed by Tomkins, Townsend, Mandana, Remy. Then Fat Sam - PVA, Luca, Sakho, Schlupp. So already, it's a mix and match. How many of these players were veiwed as potential first teamers and paid so, but gone AWOL. Suffice to say, this summer should be the result of a long hard scouting period where players are sold, moved on, replaced.

As long as RH can make some difference to his standard line-up, me happy. With Macca and Schlupp in starting 11 and Meyer/Kouyate on the bench in (home) game after home game, there is hardly an excitement in the games. We are safe now and still chasing shadows - unless having a go in the dying minutes. Like we did vs Spurs the other week. No shame losing to the top teams, but at least give them a game. Make them sweat for the Points.

Paul Merson on sky has consistently said palace are the most underachieving team in the premiership, with a equal to anyone outside the top 6, I agree with this.
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

Suffice to say, this summer should be the result of a long hard scouting period where players are sold, moved on, replaced. All the clubs outside the top six have to rely on gambling with players who are not consistent enough to improve the big clubs in their battles to win all the trophies, because clubs and fans do not want to comprehend this managers are constantly moved on when results are not good enough, managers like all players want the limelight and they have first hand knowledge of whats happening ..it's quite natural, that's why this league is like it is compared to the championship and lower where any club can have success and failure. We are doomed for this existence, getting the gambling right only succeeds in doing well below the top six, each season the gambling starts new because any club doing too well (Southampton) will lose their top players to the limelight's, one player is all it takes.

In relation to missed scoring opportunities he is reasonably right, this has nothing to do with performances, to get into a position to score and then miss means the manager and coaches have done their jobs but the players themselves on the day are never going to be interesting the top six clubs.

Injuries always hits teams in and around us, all it means to the teams at the top is where they finish in the top six, sacking managers is just a big huge waste of time and resources, the same as when a manager wants to go to a better squad.

How does it show that coaches have done their job when numerous run of the mill chances are missed by premier League standard players? It shows the exact opposite. Not enough work is being done on finishing. Take penalties and corners for example. Luka is so good because he clearly practices a lot.

Missing very important key players at both ends is something that any manager will struggle with, we are extremely weak with certain positions, doesn't take very long for the opposition to work out.

Who exactly took all the corners and freekicks etc under Pulis and Fat Sam?
