Real Black Hole Images

Exciting day today. Nasa release the long awaited first images of two black holes they have been looking at for several years......Should get the first news from 1500.

Just read about it. Apparently, due to the limited amount of big telescopes observing it - it sounds like a song from a piano with a lot of broken keys - you just have to decipher what's available.

They have certainly spent a lot of time deciphering it......some suggesting that Sag A may have a jet pointed right at us or we may get a realistic event horizon. Let's hope we get something anyway...I know they have data on a second black hole as well.......it'll be nice to learn more about their nature anyway.....considering it's what our sun is indirectly orbiting.

Whatever particles get close enough to a 'black hole' end up in its event horizon....the orbital point around the 'black hole' within which no escape is possible.....whatever it is that got that close to the star will be shredded into particles and they will fall into the object. We know that, depending upon some conditions being met, jets erupt from the poles of black holes, shooting particles at speeds approaching that of light. We may have one of those jets pointed at us or near us....which may account for the longer time it's taken to reveal the images.....or perhaps it's for another reason.

Ok thanks... just read about those jets of gas shooting out at the speed of light...

Doesn't the information paradox suggest we are currently existing on an event horizon in a kind-of 2D form, whilst we "see" the world in 3D which is actually nothing more than a hologram?

The holographic theory is interesting and there are definitely some suggestions that 'distance' between objects isn't something we fully understand....entanglement is a mystery, what happens to information beyond the event horizon. Perhaps we will inch forward soon. But these are concepts, like gravity, that are mysteries yet to be revealed.....like Newton said. 'I know not how I seem to others, but to myself I am but a small child wandering upon the vast shores of knowledge, every now and then finding a small bright pebble to content myself with while the vast ocean of undiscovered truth lay before me.'
