The internet belongs to no one and everyone. Anyone who seeks to police it, or control its content is setting themselves up to be a global moral guardian. These would be very big boots to fill.

The internet contains, as in real life, the best and worst of human behaviour, but who is to say what is right and what is wrong?

Its going to take years and if its anything like brexit there will be telepathy by then so wont need social media.

I tend to agree. The internet has been monitored and policed for years, the only thing new here is attempting to enshrine it in law/make it more permanent and wide reaching.

Firstly, anyone who is surprised at this evolution, and the much touted ‘meme ban’ from the EU (that explicitly says memes are an example of what is not going to be policed, classic scaremongering and lack of reading again) is either a raging hippie or TUX.

Secondly, until AI gets its s*** together, which admittedly isn’t that far off, it’s more or less unenforceable as it is too resource intensive. Just ask Facebook about how they try and fail to keep horrendous content off their systems. They can’t. It’s a tidal wave and they are constantly drowning - and this is a multi billion dollar company with massive resources. You think the state can do better?

The internet is recorded history. Moaning that somewhere where everything can be traced is no longer going to be a place of free expression, like say in a park or in the privacy of your own home is ridiculous. That is of course unless you’ve only just realised how the internet works.

Say and do what you like without any sort of traceability doesn’t exist on the internet, or at least it’s hard to do unless you know how.

Also partly the reason that I find some of the posts on here bizarre - this is not a private forum.
