Anyone watching the new Ricky Gervais sitcom? Critics didn't appear impressed however I must say I'm loving it. Just the right balance of thought provoking scenes mixed with laughter. Interested to know what others think.

Critics don't know sh*t. I am really enjoying it, about 5 or 6 episodes in I think. It is very well written, with some really funny moments plus some tear jerkers. Much like Gervais' other shows, extremely well put together, plus it has a great cast.

3 episodes in and really like it. Weird how he's so much better on TV than he is in films. Between this and the new Partridge it's the first time we've had any decent British comedy in a long time.

Seen every episode and really enjoyed it, I was definitely left wanting more, but not sure where they can go with it now. Edited by monkey (15 Mar 2019 8.26pm)

Just finished watching it and thought it was good. Some interesting topics covered for a 'comedy'. I always think it works well to mix somewhat societal taboo subjects with some laughs without just trying to be controversial. Some very nice sentimental touches in there as well. My only gripe having just watched the last episode was that it seemed a bit rushed at the end. But shows it must have been pretty decent to have wanted more.

Good point actually, I felt they could’ve stretched his recovery out a bit longer to get another series out of it, just feels like it’s done now.

Prefer him when he’s being funny , office, extras . But this was blinding. Loved it. First few episodes were depressing with a few funny bits. The last episode the cloud lifted and the feel good factor.

After reading this post I downloaded it. Thought it was brilliant! Living in Canada, I am constantly bombarded with American s***e and well-meant but average Canadian humour. Loved The Office & Extras and after this then I'm tempted to try "Derek". Darn I miss British TV.

Yeah not totally sure where they can go with it unless it’s him in a new relationship, struggling with pangs of guilt. Maybe his brother in law and wife split up meaning he has to help him as well. The dynamic in the newspaper room was really funny so would be a shame not to have any more of that.
