I mentioned 3-5-2 as an option earlier in the season and was drowned with protests that our back 3 didn’t have the pace or experience of playing this formation.

For those who want Roy sacked, I suppose this would probably do the trick; it certainly worked on that Dutch bloke.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

Roy does not show any signs of being able to come up with a solution at home. I’m sure the owners are already thinking this way. Mutual agreement in the summer I would imagine.

De Boer tried the formation with the inexperienced Riedewald and Fossu Mensah as two of the 3 defenders and also experimented with Luka in the back 3 and Townsend at wing back.

For me, the problem at home is more about team selection and substitutions than formation; although I wouldn't object to seeing 4-4-2 tried a bit more. IF we stay up this season I'm 50:50 on Roy's immediate future as there has to be a time when we have some consistency in management and, at least on the face of it, Roy does seem to be able to work with Parish.

As I mentioned elsewhere, he's in good company there - Holloway, Pulis, Allardyce and Pardew also were unable to resolve the problem. I think the news re the sale of the club has the potential to see a number of key changes, the managers position being just one of them.

I would agree with above. 352 is easily adaptable to 532 , 541 ,351-1 without having to make subs which would be right up Roys street .

As a PL Manager with 40 years experience he ought to be able to adapt, after all that is what a training pitch is all about.

FDB seemed as pragmatic as Roy, wishing to play this system every game when it clearly wasn't working over 4 games. Roy could easily give this a go in say 1 match when there is limited attacking threat at home, say the Udders at home ? Can't really think why he could not try this, as clearly our formation at home isn't working.

Haven't looked at the stats for these managers (Ollie can be ignored as we weren't good home or away under his brief stay as manager in the PL) but feel that this season the difference between home and away results seems more marked. We did show Jekyll and Hyde tendencies under Pards but that was one half of the season to the next. Under Pulis we were scrapping for everything throughout the team, personnel seem different now. Bizarre suggestion. We have 3 centre backs total at the moment, none of whom will really step forward to give an extra man in midfield. Wilf should not be playing up front, he should be wide with Andros on the other side. What Roy should have done yesterday was play Meyer in the central 3, or go with two sitting midfielders and Meyer behind the striker. Roy is not operating with the set of players that he wants. He doesn't want Meyer, but there's a disconnect with the scouting team so that's who he was given rather than a proper replacement for RLC.
