I was looking at Michy's wages at Chelsea to see how that would fit into our budget if we made a move for him. He is on £90k a week, which is doable.

AWB is absolutely magic, but he is young and hasn't actually played that many games, nor is he an international yet. Luka's on fair to good money, who would pay better? His contract is up when he's nearly 30 so we should see the best of him as things stand. Other than the obvious CF we need to be looking at CB for natural decline/turn over. Sakho has had another knee injury, Dann had a serious lay off and is the wrong side of 30, Tommo is around that age too, maybe 29? Maybe bringing in a young CB from the lower leagues or youth team would be an idea for the summer, get a serious understudy in.

Don't you think AWB now deserves to be on at least the same as Ward and Riedewald? I personally would say he should be on at least double that. Originally posted by ChrisGC

If is were the Chairman I would be resigning Luka right now on a lot more than that and AWB I would move to five times that wage.

Who knows these guys' contractual terms? Remember when we were worried about McArthur, only for it to transpire he'd signed a new contract that hasn't been reported?
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

Nobody else's wage is relevant to what you earn in your life. Undoubtedly at this moment in time he is our best player. He's 19 and played 30 odd professional games. We've got a fantastic apprentice at work, should I put him on the same wage as a made up colleague with 10 years experience? This is how teams end up with large wage bills that can't be sustained. It would be more logical to look at Reidelwild and CB and say: this kid is on a tenth of what you earn so we're knocking down your wages to reflect that.

If we have to treat current players as new signings and dive into that budget then so be it. Wan-Bissaka will get absolute minimum of 60k as soon as Chelsea/United/Tottenham come sniffing and he would be first choice right back for all those teams. We should tie him down to a top player salary. Luka should get a good rise, just to show we appreciate him. He will likely stay but we shouldn't be making him look a fool for trying hard whilst Benteke sits on the bench doing nothing for more money.
