Very interesting piece. Some on here slate Roy and think he is terrible but he is a top manager in the game. He makes mistakes, but you can see in the comments from ex players and Lewington that he is massively respected. Interesting comments from Lewington on it being ok to play badly, as long as you are following the game plan. Might explain a few selection choices now and then!
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

People on here slag on and on about Roy on how he's toothless and never tries anything exciting. But the truth of the matter is that were one of the most structured teams in the league and that comes down to Roy

Has a few faults but a brilliant manager overall, under whom we've played some excellent football. If we'd got a proper striker in the summer, we'd be top half now.

Hodgson is hugely respected in the game as a manager and as a person and one could advance the argument that had it not been for him we would not now be in the hallowed land of the PL. Plaudits for him on this thread but should we succumb to a defeat at Leicester tomorrow, I suspect that he will come in for some of the ordure he has received in the past.

I stumbled on this piece before coming here and reading this thread. I think also that the article sheds some light on his approach to the players at CPFC; most particularly in respect to Christian Benteke. He appears to work and rehearse them hard at training, but is sympathetic unless they don't follow through on that training during a match. I think the piece is fair, complimentary, and (whilst of course nobody is perfect) tells me how lucky we are to have him as manager. Because other teams have a different ethos and way of doing things (perhaps most notably Liverpool), he is not such a good fit for them. Well done RH.
The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government whether Nazi or Communist. |

It's pure belligerence. Basically Wodgson and his staff are valuing obedience over talent as it protects their authority and therefore their jobs. There is some merit in this, but the balance should be loyalty and talent. We would easily be top ten if he didn't wait 15-20 games for players to come good or just keep picking the same trusty carthorses over a bit of flare. And in terms of respect within the game? I've heard plenty of ex players on podcasts and in the media who speak negatively about his style. He's extremely one dimensional and predictable, no matter how good the passing and positional discipline has looked at times. Edited by ChrisGC (22 Feb 2019 9.30am)

Yes we feel like we should be higher up the league and we should be scoring more goals, and yes I do get the feeling constant relegation battles could catch up with us, but at the moment Roy’s got us organised and competitive, as did Pulis and Allardyce. We were definitely going down with Holloway and Pardew’s more attacking style because we were shipping goals.

I’m sure that our outstanding traveling supporters will have something entirely appropriate at Leicester tomorrow for Roy, especially when the clock strikes 71. Edited by kenbarr (22 Feb 2019 1.33pm)
