Hi all,
will be in Croydon for the Fulham game next week. This time accommodation will not include breakfast. Any suggestions/ideas where I can get a decent "Full English" next to Holiday Inn / town center. Recommendations welcomed. Tks in advance and COYP

What are All Bar One breakfasts like? They used to be top grade.

What about Jury’s Inn?

This has been a huge problem in my life since Scrumpichinos closed. Options are fairly limited.

The Breakfast Club in Box Park is quite good, although you can’t book a table on the weekends and it’s usually rammed. Expect a 25 min wait to get in. As others have said, straight to the Cronx for good local beer directly below.

The George Wetherspoons is cheap and (perhaps not so) cheerful. A Guinness will always wash down a fry up nicely.

If you’re after something fancy or ‘nouvelle cuisine’, as I’d call it, Smoothbean is opposite the Cronx, next door to AMP House. More avacado on toast/poached egg/coffee shop type place.

If volume is key, there are a few hotels which will do buffet breakfast, perhaps Premier Inn.

The first 3 are all within close proximity to East Croydon station. Happy eating.

ok we'll have to differ, the reason for suggesting the Breakfast Club is i've been a few times and never had to wait for a table - food may take while if busy, but it's good and popular. The menu is quite broad, so if not all your party fancy the full English there's plenty of choice - but the full monty is excellent if you like a good fat boys fry up!

Haha. Love it. Wait time can easily be solved – don't bother sitting inside. Ask for a takeaway and then sit wherever you like. Significantly reduced wait time, increased satisfaction.

It's a good point of which I hadn't considered. To me however, I enjoy the feeling of being in a cafe with the smell of bacon in the air. This is something you'll miss out on by taking it away.

Coincidentally, I ate in Breakfast Club this morning, in Spitalfields, and to be frank I was rather disappointed with my sausage, egg and cheese sandwich (served with a red onion chutney). The egg was over cooked, so no running yolk, and I would have preferred the sausage more cooked. There was also an uneven spread of ingredients with the sausage density too think in the middle and the cheese all on one side. On reflection, should have gone for the Huevo Rancheros. It's a learning curve.

I won't let today's experience put me off Breakfast Club as we have shared many good times together in Croydon. I was sad to see that they have removed the steak, egg and cheese ciabatta from the breakfast menu. Hopefully this is just in Spitalfields and not Croydon as well.

I ordered a bacon and egg sandwich in a cafe once and saw them chopping through the yolk while cooking the egg. I had to stop them right there and then. Sacrilege to not have a soft yolk.

Optimistic as ever

Incredible. How an earth does a person with that outlook on eggs ever get a job as a cafe chef? If it was an accident it can be forgiven but this is just madness. I presume/hope you never returned?
