It has nothing to do with education.....nothing can be done about stupidity.

This child was three....you want to teach about the potential dangers of playing in car footwells to three year olds? This was about the guy...not the child. You can't fix irresponsible impulses. This will always happen. As for me....come on be sensible I was teaching computer science and IT Maple....knowledge. Ethics are the domain of the family....the state is a terribly ineffective substitute for that. You seriously don't think schools don't try to socially engineer as it is? You seriously don't think this guy had the usual messages shoved down his neck? Of course he did. You are reacting emotionally....which on one level I understand but.....this stuff will always be with us. Edited by Stirlingsays (15 Jan 2019 6.20pm)

Edited by Stirlingsays (15 Jan 2019 6.20pm) You misread me Teach parents about potential dangers to children Even the thick ones should be able to grasp some of the basics if it's drummed into them. No, schools don't teach about how to parent to any significant degree. At least not in my time. For example basic anatomy of small children and how easily they can be damaged. Perhaps some horror stories about damage done. And it isn't just the bloke, the mother was in the back with the child wasn't she? Presumably neither realised the potential consequences, especially after the first incident. Regarding yourself, you said nothing can be done about stupidity so I said in that case why do you bother. Everyone is stupid until they learn. Some start from lower bases than others and have a lower zenith, but almost everyone can learn.

This kind of thing can't be controlled. The state cannot change this kind of event no matter what is said. You are simply being unrealistic. Teaching in schools cannot change what is innate within people. A stupid impulse is a stupid impulse. Edited by Stirlingsays (15 Jan 2019 6.51pm)

I became a teacher to teach my subject. That what I did and I provided some pastoral care within my role as a form tutor. Saying teachers need to teach adults that they shouldn't be taking actions that hurt their children is nonsensical. Children at knowable risk are the domain of social workers....teachers already help within this domain in terms of raising concerns. I understand your frustration. I found this situation upsetting and I expect most of us are angry about it.

How can anyone read that and think it's got anything to do with education? The bloke deliberately crushed a child, not once but twice with a car seat. An electric car seat no less. He knew. He's lucky he's not being done for murder and her aiding. She's worse, actually tried covering for him. Bunch of scumbags.

Yes In your view they meant for this outcome, so knew the effects of their actions?
