I know I can't stop it but this phrase 'we're going backwards' just doesn't really add up to me! A few stats simply back that up, just by looking at previous seasons at this stage it's clear we're in a better position than in all but 1 season. I know you can prove anything we stats, but i'll add them purely for debating purposes, make of them what you will! At this stage ie matchweek 21 we've only been in a better position in 1 season 15/16 and that year we ended up in fifteenth with a goal difference of -12 Yes we can do better, and also improve the side but surely it's not as bad as some people seem to think! Its not its is down to IMO the hype of the prem, we should be doing this, we should buying him etc. We are punching way above our weight by staying in the prem we are not unlike west brom, cardiff, dare i say it brighton. A Family locally based non global team un like man u liverpool arsenal etc etc. Enjoy the rollercoast ride and be done with it.

Not much has changed in facilities though. Most Championship sides have a better match day experience than us. Would love to see the main stand actually started rather than talked about. I will be over at Anfield next week - talk about chalk and cheese. Can get a beer or food whenever you like more or less. Only once did I get a beer at Selhurst and waited so long that I missed our inevitable loss. Plus it was warm. Once ate a hot dog and chips at Selhurst - never again. They have a new stadium, a top class academy, superior facilities and a wealthy owner who's prepared to put his hand in his pocket. They aren't maxed out on wages and their team didn't cost anywhere near what ours has cost.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

We got promoted out of nowhere and have had a job just to maintain premier league status. With where both clubs were in 2013 it’s amazing we haven’t been eclipsed by them. Instead, we’ve had the upper hand virtually the whole time.

Worth observing that we're coming out of Christmas without looking like a war hospital for the first time in a few years. Last year we lost Puncheon and Dann long-term in a single match at this point in proceedings. Currently nobody injured although granted Wickham and Benteke are only just coming back from long-term issues. I think at one point last winter we had something like ten men injured including Sakho and Wilf. Touch wood...

Weed also have deluded customers instead of fans, an atmosphere like a hospital, the police force from hell and a bunch of thuggish cloggers in their defence. I know where I'd rather be.

Good post OP. It kind of echos my sentiments in other posts. I think the issue is that it is so difficult for us to move forward, I mean, what is moving forward anyway? We have signed players on big money to take us forward from where we were a few years ago and until we move them on we cannot really sign more. The frustration for me is the off field stuff. I do think we should have done better there. On field, I am still pinching myself. 3 wins and 2 draws in our next 10 and we should be set up to be comfortably clear of relegation.

Our chairman isn't prepared to put his hand in his pocket despite our team being maxed out on wages and having cost a huge amount to put together.

Edited by ASCPFC (04 Jan 2019 12.53pm) 'Not much has changed' - when are you comparing it to? Since 2010 took over, at Selhurst we've upgraded the floodlights, the pitch (a couple of times) and drainage/heating, the TV/broadcasting/media facilities, the hospitality in the main stand (Speroni's/lounges etc) have all been updated, as have the exec boxes in the Whitehorse, we've got rid of all the old wooden seats and I think the dressing rooms etc have been sorted as well? We've brought in electronic turnstiles which (despite much moaning on day one) seem to work well, and we have tried new catering options (in the upper tier at least) even if people aren't still that happy with them. We've just acquired a long-term lease for the academy site, and while the main stand development is still in limbo, we have at least put together and submitted proper plans? I agree there are still major issues with things like scouting in particular, but I imagine this is where we've been a bit hamstrung by not having a settled manager and DoF for a proper period of time. Hopefully that is changing, but it can't help when Pardew comes in and says he wants to change everything and then we have to get rid of him, Allardyce comes in and then leaves within six months etc. I do think it's very, very unfair to say that nothing has changed though. Anfield an interesting comparison given a) some people's experiences of it: [Link] and b) the years (decades?) of planning a new stadium that then didn't happen before building the new main stand there. These things don't just happen overnight, and I do think Palace have definitely been ticking things off where we can.

Definitely not going backwards. I think the frustration is that the starting 10 is the best we've had in the PL, but we screwed ourselves over by not signing that one final piece, the striker. The considerable number of 0s we've scored this season attests to our need. Thank goodness we've got Roy who can win with 6 midfielders.
