Did anyone else think the cheers for Wickham's introduction were an indication of the crowd's discontent with the tactics? I reckon there's a good chance Roy goes with the same line up. Guaita AWB, Tomkins, Sakho, PvA I noted Meyer replaced Kouyate yesterday and that made us a lot more progressive with out passing. We have to get players back in their best position. Wilf on the wing is a must. I think Townsend's workrate and better shooting make him the better choice up front.

I doubt Sorloth would have had the same cheer. Wickham showed a few positive glimpses against Cardiff, a well-hit shot, a crisp lay off to the wing. I think people were probably pleased Wilf was going to be released to the wing once Wickham came on, but also sympathetic for why he's being asked to play up front. I like a 451 with lots of scope to go 433 if we see fit, with Wilf given lots of freedom in attacking positions. Sorloth just needs a little experience, Ayew can't lead a line, Wickham can't start, and Benteke isn't fit. So we go with Roy's tactics for now. Keep it tight, let Wilf go wide later, against weaker sides. I did wonder if Wilf was injured on Saturday. I think he hates playing up front.

——————————Guaita—————————- AWB————Sakho———Tompkins——-—-PVA ———Kouyate——Milivojevic——McArthur——— Zaha——————-Wickham———-—-Townsend Subs: Hennessey, Ward, Dann, Meyer, Ayew, Schlupp, Sørloth Can’t see any point in playing the same XI as against Chelsea. Wolves start with 3 huge CBs so when we try a long ball (as we constantly did against Chelsea) we need a big man up front to win it and hopefully hold it up. Wickham’s introduction sparked a huge, albeit late, improvement in the performance against Chelsea and he caused Cardiff problems.

Wouldn't be surprised if RH goes back to the Cardiff line-up with Meyer coming in for Schlupp. I agree we need to get Wilf back to the wing, easily his best position. I feel that when he goes back to the wing during the match he passes the ball earlier to other players rather than going down the wing passing players & then going into the penalty area. Whether this is down to confidence, frustration at playing in the middle or both?
The pyramid to beat all pyramids!! Find out what team is in which division, eg which division is Coppull United in? |

Townsend gets through a huge amount of work and can easily slip back into midfield and pick up the ball when required. Both PVA and AWB can overlap so we should have the width to cause any opposing fullbacks problems.

I think we've played our best football before Roy came in with a 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation but its 4-4-2 all the way these days.

Hennessey has to return against his old club. Guaita was at fault yesterday and the De Bruynne goal was an absolute joke. Also put Kaikai and Williams on the bench so we have a different set of options to Puncheon.

VG Luka sitting. Macca chasing and dusrupting. Meyer- Kouyate- distributing and driving attacks Townsend free role. Wickham (if able to play 90). The target man for through balls and crosses/ hold up to bring Meyer through (really want to see him nearer the goal) PVA I think needs a rest, really like him but has been sloppy at times recently, could be tired. I'd like to be in a position to get subs on to give Luka and Macca a rest at 60 mins and would like to see Wickham do the 90, leave absolutely everything on the pitch. Do him the world of good.

It was a complete mis*** by de Bruyne

The DeBruyne goal was a fluke, with VG covering the incoming forwards & while he could have done better yesterday I don’t see Wayne saving that as he is not the best at fast reaction low saves, also why he wouldn’t have saved Vardy’s.
