I’m probably flattering myself that Wilf might read this, but hope he does. I’m sure he’s heard this from many coaches and advisers before, but just hope that from a now near 70 year old fan of perhaps 60 years now living in Thailand, it might be a bit ‘different’. Great win yesterday, fantastic effort by everyone and wonder goal by Andros. I fell into bed at midnight here, ‘bubbling’. But, you know what spoiled the occasion slightly was seeing you losing it yet again and getting booked, having just finished a suspension. Look, nobody loves you more than me; fair to say Palace would not be in the position it is without your great contribution in your time at the Club. We all know you get fouled, but the opponent isn’t penalized, but there are occasions when you’re appealing for something that isn’t there. This gets you frustrated, but often you annoy the referee with your reaction and, of course, the fans of the opposition, who get on your back. Your rash challenge leading to the booking was typical. Complaining or subsequent fouling is unlikely to help, indeed it’s a distraction to your game you don’t need. Get on with it. It’s about time to mature, keep your temper, let your skills do the talking, hurt the opposition and help your own team. I’m convinced this would make you an even better player.

I've been saying it for a while: the club needs to get a sports psychologist in to work with Wilf if he's going to realise his potential.

They used to say the same about Rooney. He done alright Agree he needs to be more savvy. But you can’t take that away from him. It’s part of his make up.

Brian - there was something in it, he was fouled twice but the ref missed it. Monstermunch I agree 100%. In my view Rooney's game declined when Fergie coached the edge out of it. I don't think he needs a shrink but he needs to find a way to manage his anger and edge better when it is starting to get counter productive.

maybe Wilf's anger should be more in his boots and less in his mouth. but what would i know ? what advice can an armchair beer drinker offer to a professional athlete ?

I know that this has been said so many times that it hardly needs repeating - opponents foul him not only because "he's just too good for you", but because they know he'll lose his cool, he'll sulk, get thrown off his game, frequently get carded, and in general become less effective. Yes, a psychologist should be given a chance to try and sort him out. I remember (I'm extremely old) someone saying that when Stanley Matthews found himself against a clogger, it simply increased his determination to make a fool of the culprit.

As frustrating as it is that Wilf gets booked for what's become his trademark foul, I think it's impossible to eradicate it without him losing an edge to his game. I think it's the price of doing business in this instance.

Got lumps kicked out of him every match and was petulant. He’s eradicated it from his game and became the worlds best player. Wilf gets kicked no more than Hazard but Hazard can handle it. Skilful players will get the physical treatment, simple. He needs do something about it as he’s letting himself down at the moment and it’s affecting his form. Must driving Hodgson mad. Sports psychologist sounds like a sensible idea.

Shouldn’t one of his team mates exert a calming influence ?
