To answer your post about little clues. Many years ago I went for a job at Bromley Library, the candidate before me came out of the room and was surrounded by the staff who obviously knew them. They might as well have given her hi fives. To make matters worst at the end of my interview I was told I had given the best interview and had a great CV but they had decided to give it to another candidate (no surprise).

That was an example of the council paying lip services to advertising jobs to external candidates when they already had an internal candidate lined up.

Anyway try not to read too much into it fingers crossed you get the job.

If you like the job, get in touch. It makes you look keen. If they are trying to make up their minds it could sway them in your favour, or they might get in touch again in future.

If it's a already a no, then you can't make things worse.

My missus is a teacher with 25 years experience, and in a Senior Management role in a London school.
5 years ago, she applied for a (lesser) teaching job 10 minutes away from where we live.
She went to the school for a pre-interview visit, and on the day of the interview, she was kept in a 'waiting room' with 2 other candidates.
The first candidate was called into interview,..."Miss Smith, do you want to come through ?"
My wife chatted to the other candidate who explained the Head Teacher had asked her to apply for the job.
20 minutes later the first candidate returned to the waiting room.
My wife was called next,.."Miss White, do you want to come through ?" When my wife returned to the waiting room, the last candidate was called in,...."Barbara, do come in. how good to see you "

A few years ago I had an interview at an American bank based in Bromley.

The agency that introduced me warned me that the woman interviewing me had been flown over from California, was notoriously tough and I could expect the interview to last 45 max. I prepared myself accordingly.

When I met with her we seemed to get on really well and seemed to share the same ideas and philosophies.The interview lasted 90 minutes. Both myself and the agency were encouraged by that and I was quietly confident about my chances.

3 weeks went by before the agency finally got feedback which was '' I really liked him but he's not senior enough for role. However I would like to hire him for another position we have ''

I wasn't really interested in the other job, but went for the interview anyway.

I didn't get it. Reason '' he's too senior '' !

In my younger days I went for an interview as a researcher at a Scientific research company. Interviewer was a good looking woman who I got on well with. At the end, shaking hands, I winked at her. Didn't get the job.
