I haven't seen it but Lucas Moura didn't for a dive of the kind that Wilf has never even been accused of, let alone done.

He didn't actually dive, he stubbed his toe on the pitch and fell over, the ref gave the penalty. Yes he undoubtedly should have owned up but he didn't dive. Edited by jimruss (08 Nov 2018 7.23am)

Chris Sutton pathetically tried to excuse Sterling's penalty last night. Yet when Wilf is clearly fouled in the box for a penalty against City he can't stop calling him a diver. I really wish they would muzzle this t*** for good. Edited by chateauferret (08 Nov 2018 9.51am)

Sterling didn't dive he kicked the floor and fell over. the Official gave a pen - no matter what Sterling did after that the ref will not change his decision on the objection of a player. Only on the advice of another official - what was the one behind the goal doing?

those 'behind the goal' officials are a complete waste of wages and add absolutely nothing to the game. I've never seen one make a decision or give advice to the ref, even when things blatantly happen in front of them. They are completely impassive to everything that happens in front of them.

Whatever the Ref then decides to do, Sterling is clear of any wrongdoing.

For a start the media treatment of Sterling is far worse than Wilf. He is pretty much the most hated English player for no apparent reason, despite arguably being the best (similar to Rooney really). It wasn't a dive, he kicked the floor and tripped over. It was however an opportunity for him to turn around his image and become a hero by explaining what happened to the ref at the time. That said, what would Guardiola have said to him had the decision been reversed and Shaktar came back to beat them? There is a lot at stake in Champions League games, it's easy for us to say as a spectator that we would have owned up. It's a big decision to make in a few seconds. I'm sure now, that looking back on how the game panned out, he probably regrets his decision to stay quiet.

An article of bad referee decisions following the Sterling incident. It features our one v Leeds where Duberry cleared it from within the goal, but doesn't mention that he compounded it by doing so with his hand. Nor does it mention either of our ghost goals that went in and weren't given, by Clive Allen and Freddie Sears.

Agree, even Pep seemed to tell 4th official , I don't think Sterling dived on this occasion. Incompetent ref quote=Isley46;3380156] it's the officials they should be talking about. Sterling didn't dive he kicked the floor and fell over. the Official gave a pen - no matter what Sterling did after that the ref will not change his decision on the objection of a player. Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |
