I’m only speculating but it seems to me that there is disconnect between what Roy wants and the players who are actuall brought in.
Guita Rakip Jach ,Sorloth,Meyer,Ayew have made minimal if any impact or not even be selected.
Kouyate has been used as he is an experienced Premier player and more in keeping with the type that I think Roy would like.
It was telling at the beginning of the season when discussing the squad and Roy said that the scouting department had said rather than send Kai Kai and Williams out on loan again he should use them as part of the squad.
Well he obviously doesn’t think they can contribute as he doesn’t even really involve them in the league cup fixtures.
Observing from the outside it looks a mess.

We dont seem to hear much from Freedman but I guess that is because what could he say other than he is looking for transfer targets all the time !. Watching the game last night and looking at Hodgson's face despite him saying that those players needed game time and was not dissappointed, the two did not tally. He looked to me really frustrated and grumpy.
I also think that he does not want some of these players so watch the January window.

I want Freedman to be involved at the club.....but perhaps in another role..... perhaps the transfer target success he had at Palace as manager was due to another influence....Popovic perhaps?....because at Bolton the transfers were poor and Forest afterwards weren't impressed.

Whatever the case, something isn't right at the scouting through to transfer selection model....because outside of the 'no brainer' transfer targets of proven quality.....the transfers have been poor.

No 'Jedinaks' being brought in for sure.

Weren't they both under transfer embargos?

I believe he had left Bolton before they were under a transfer embargo. He did sign a lot of players at Bolton including quite a few on Loan. One of his loan signings was Danny Butterfield from Southampton.

There was a transfer embargo when he was at Nottm For but he was able to bring in a few players on loan.He also brought in a couple of 'Frees' including defender Matt Mills who played under him at Bolton.

I have heard Steve P’s take on transfer activity from the podcast.
I think he has been excellent for Palace on the whole and welcome his positivity around the club.
However, the fact remains that of the last 7 signings only Kouyate seems a likely starter under the current manager.
It is difficult to put a positive spin on this.
This points an alarming disconnect between the objectives of the scouting department and the requirements of Roy.
It is evident that the two players who Roy wanted to retain - Sakho and Cabaye - left the club.
Now it may be they would have left anyway, but it seems evident that Roy does not trust the players brought into the squad as alternatives.

I think it's more of a disconnect between the scouting department and reality. We get the odd nugget and an occasional £30m splurge diluted by a veritable flood of raw sewage. But TBF our inability to close signings hardly helps. No window closes without at least one decent-looking deal collapsing for a stupid reason.

Which was before Freedman came back to the club and said to be an Allardyce suggestion.

I have long felt that managers here get frustrated with the transfer policy. Of our last 7 managers before Roy, 3 of them (Allardyce, Pulis, Freedman) have quit the club rather than being fired with Holloway also leaving by mutual consent. Seems like a very high proportion to me for a top flight club.
