Not a poor performance today but another predictable defeat.
Roy can point to a missec penalty and hitting the bar, but I would contend,
1) we can’t keep a clean sheet
2)therefore we have to score a goal to even get a point
3) only Huddersfield have scored less goals than us this season
4)) we have only managed to beat Fulham and Huddersfield whom everybody beats
5) none of the current strikers convince for a variety of reasons.
We tried to play a similar way to the end of last season but Schlupp and Kouyate cannot perform the same roles as RLC and Cabaye so the system fails.
We can’t grind out 1-0 win season like under Pulis so have to find a goalscorer or I can’t see us accumulating enough point so to stay up.

IMO it goes deeper than just the striker. Our possession football is fine but (apart from Zaha) as soon as we're required to ask a serious question of the opposition we don't have the attacking quality or guile that's needed.

Even when we do fashion a chance no-one is showing any bollocks / quality in front of goal. Not just the strikers.

A fit, rejuvenated Benteke apparently back by the year end,may be the answer.
However, many correctly predicted this defeat and failure to acquire even one point against a rather mediocre Everton does not bode well for our next four fixtures where even one point attained, would be unexpected, surprising but very welcome!!

And then what? Roy brings a new striker in and then sticks him on the bench every week!

Wickham (if he can steer clear of injury).

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Ok!, so....

Who do we bring in?

How do we pay for him without breaching FFP Rules?

Who do we get rid of to cover the cost? and:

Who will take the above for the price we want for them (given that they are all considered to be overpriced rubbish by so many on here)?

Who, that fits your -and others- requirements of being a top goal scorer, actually wants to come to our club?

Answers on the back of a postage stamp please!

Even though it sounds very apocalyptic, I actually agree with the OP. I can actually point out some names, good scorers who might be let go by their clubs.

However....any player who comes would probably require a period to adapt and the league might be close to finish by the time it connects to the teamates. The time to get someone in should have been last summer.

In posing the question I was not necessarily talking about buying a new player.
I was saying we have to find one either from within the squad or else buy one in January.
The central point is that you can’t win games if you can’t score goals.

We have them already in Benteke and Wickham. We just need them to be totally match fit and goals will come. If they cannot get fit then we need someone in .Who is anyone’s guess.

Will they? In respect of Benteke I'm not sure how you can place any faith in him as a solution after his displays over the last 12 months plus.

As for Wickham, well I do rate him and IF he stays fit then he may start scoring but its a big big IF.

I wouldn't want to pin our fate in the hands of those two players.

Absolutely,my view entirely.

Benteke who has only scored a solitary goal since January, and that being a penalty, and Wickham who had been out since the season before last and who could break down at any moment and be out for a prolonged period once again.

Problem is that goalscorers of any pedigree cost a great deal of money and we aren't going to be shopping at the high-end stores.

We all perfectly know that we have to find the way to score with the actual squad, as we all perfectly know that we cannot buy a strong striker unless we sell one of our high earners and high payed players, which won't happen as they are underperforming and no one would buy them at their actual wages.
Hence, until Benteke's contract expires on June 2020 and Sakho contract expires on June 2021, we are stuck with this team.
So, solutions have to be found in house.
