Good positivity.
At that time,we had the new manager " bounce",Cabye and RLC in the squad and being bottom, things could only get better.
After a great result at Fulham,Roy is beginning to really look his age as the early season optimism evaporates and poor result over the next five games somewhat inevitable, the pressure will really mount.

We are 4 points better off. We have played 8 and the 8th game v Chelsea brought us a win. We could set a record for longest home run without a goal. No goals yet and with our next few fixtures chances of us scoring are looking unlikely

And in the 8th game last season we played really well, and in the games leading up to it we were showing some promise. This year we have been dross since game 2. Admittedly last year we then lost to Newcastle in game 9, but we still played well.

People got carried away after Fulham and some nice words by Neville. We are one of 14 teams that start every season in a potential relegation scrap. All of us are more or less on a level footing with the prem money and it's now becoming like the championship, where on any given gameday everyone can beat everyone else. The season now consists of winning or losing runs and no real consistency. The relegation bullet with our name on could come this season, no one knows, but I think it's inevitable that it will at some time. The FFP rule or keep the big club status quo rule has really put paid to anyone taking a spending risk and growing enough to challenge the big 6.
We haven't put a good 60 minutes (you never get 90) together so far and Wilf has started poorly, maybe self inflicted, but someone should have stopped him saying what he did. Thing is though but for glaring misses by Ward, Benteke, Sakho and Schlupp, plus an elbow we would have had a solid start. Our biggest problem seems to be creating clear chances and the few we do we somehow manage to miss. Seriously why did Schlupp sidefoot it at the keeper from 4 yards? Puts his laces through that and we get a goal and a point.
We are a counter attacking team and struggle to get through a packed defence like Newcastle's or Wolves. Unless we get an early breakthrough we are in trouble. Really believe this was a game Wilf should have played wide, running at people, dragging them out of position. Up front we couldn't get him on the ball enough.
My own personal worries are Roy's refusal to put in Kouyate and Meyer, players bought IMO to play not ride the bench and his poor use of subs and inability to change the course of a game by using them. Sorloth looks totally out of his depth and Ayew doesn't fit our style of play. I would have preferred a loan move for Niasse than Ayew, personally.
Thing is after Fulham everything wasn't fine and after 8 games everything isn't rotten. I think we will be fine this season, but it's not gonna be as comfortable as some had hoped.

I think we’re ok defensively but pose little threat going forward.
We’re not a Burnley or Brighton that can ground out 1-0 wins at home as we don’t keep too many clean sheets.
It is a concern that our most consistent player this season has probably been Hennessy (who many wanted replaced) as opposed to our attacking players.
The squad looks unbalanced as we have 4 central midfield players in Luka, Mcarthur, Kouyate and Meyer and to accommodate them all will be difficult as I’m not sure any of them can fulfil the RLC role of last season.
Roy is an experienced coach and I think he will find a way with the current squad but iI think it will require a different approach to that which we saw at the end of last season.

I think that you've picked the wrong title as "Not as bad as you think...." implies that we are better than we think we are which isn't true.

The title should have been something along the lines of "Not as bad as last season" which I think we all know

There are only five teams in the league with a better defensive record than us so it doesn't need a genius to
work out where our big problem lies.

Sort that out and we will be OK.

I'm confident we can start scoring again. I was pleased when Benteke got injured, but after watching Ayew & Sorloth, I'm looking forward for him to get back. Is Wickham ever comning back?

Last Season we had attempted to revolutionise our playing style, failed, and got someone in to implement a system that would suit our Players better. By 7 games we looked on the up.

" Not as bad as you think".

Suggest we look at this headline and review our points total after playing the next 5 games.

We have to play a resurgent Everton away as well as very much inform Chelsea, Arsenal,Spurs and Man U.

Gaining a solitary point would be an achievement, given our current form against these teams!!
