I think Roy should gamble more, especially when Meyer has got fully match fit.

AWB and PVA are probably amomg the top attacking full backs in the division, but not so hot defensively*.

Push them on, play a pressing game (Ayew Wilf, Townsend can all press from the front and I think our midfielders & wing backs can back them up). Luka drops a little further back if teams break against us, Tomkins or Sakho then push wide if our wing backs get caught too far forward.

Quite often I think this would mean their(PVA and AWB's) defending would amount to a foot race, rather than being up against a couple of players trying to break down a banked defence. They're both lightning fast.

I just feel we're capable of being a bit more attack minded whereas, to me, Roy likes to have that defensive shape at all times and maybe even to invite teams on to us.

**Just to be clear, I'm still a huge fan of Roy and what he's done.**

*AWB Is great 1 on 1 but pretty vulnerable when teams try to play around him, as is to be expected for such an inexperienced player

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Interesting point about AWB.
I noted that Bournemouth didn’t seek to engage him one in one (where he excels) and instead played 1-2s around him and on occasions he looked uncomfortable.
For me it is interesting that the three better performances of the team this season we’re in the first three games where 4-4-2 was employed with Townsend and Schlupp in natural positions for them and Benteke and Zaha up front.
The balance looked better and we defended and attacked as a unit.
I am not necessarily advocating this going forward and it is difficult to accommodate Meyer and Kouyate in this way of playing if Luka and Mcarthur play.
Sometimes the best players don’t feature in the best balanced teams, however, so the coming weeks will be interesting as Roy seeks to mould the team.

I want to come away from a game thinking that we gave it a go and the players gave everything. Then if we happen to lose; so be it. At the moment I never think this.

Ergo “yes”.

I would certainly be happy to see us play the ball forward with more pace rather than our often painfully slow build-ups that entail lots of backwards and sideways passes, by which time the opposition have had ample opportunity to get all 10 outfielders back behind the ball and into position.

On Monday after we had conceded the penalty we had four minutes to try and score an equaliser but half of that time was taken up with our defence passing the ball sideways to each other with no effort made to move it up the pitch at all until we had almost run out of time

---------------------Hennessey--------------------

Ward------------Tomkins----------Sakho---------Schlupp

AWB----------------Meyer------Luka----------------PVA

Townsend--------------------------------------------Wilf

Plenty of defensive cover on the wings as well as plenty of threat from pace.

Let loose the dogs of war

You can attack all you want. But if you haven't got a centre forward who's going to put the ball in the net at thecend of it, it won't make much difference.

I've been saying for a while that we played better with schlupp in the team. Him, pva and wilf had a great understanding and with schlupp in the team, pva gets forward more. Recently we've been playing macarthur left midfield, which in my opinion unbalances the side .

Unfortunately Wilf has been a shadow of the player before he did that interview. We need him back to his best. The other obvious deficiency is up front. It does not matter what formation we play if we do not have anyone capable of sticking it in the back of the net. Time to start Sorloth for 3/4 games to see if he can cut the mustard. Ayew looks like Campbell. Benteke looks like an immobile Calvin Andrew and getting worse every time he plays. If Sorloth doesn’t come good revert to Wilf and Androids up front until we can buy someone in January

Roy is never going to drop his mid block and start pressing high collectively, forget that. I think we do need to play faster though, all this season our football has been slow ponderous s***e easy to defend and we've lost our edge
