In short, Meyer should have been on earlier and Kouyate probably from the start

Schlupp poor again and Ayew a cross between Schlupp and Frazier Campbell.

Townsend too good to take off. Hennessy and Wan Bassaka true class.

Biggest lesson is the same as last week. PVA allows crosses. Never stops them. Compare to AWB. The opposition can see that.

Bring back Souare anyone? Push PVA forward again?

I don’t wanna pour cold water on the two new boys; yes, they looked good but was it merely “fresh legs” in what must have been a tiring game? AWB is good, but he made a fair few mistakes today.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Agree with all of that

Schlupp literally jogs/walks the whole game ..
Pitiful really ...
We had no Wilf today and today was the day that Townsend
would have to play the whole game . Yet he was subbed and Schlupp still jogs on
Two of the subs (Not Sorloth) made such a difference but brought on too late as per normal
The crowd was getting frustrated today even singing to Roy to make a substitution...
Southampton were and are an average side .. yet I thought they bullied Kelly and Sakho at times
Tomkins is a huge miss .. he calms the back four down ...
Meyer and Kouyate look like they will soon be regulars ... for what it’s worth I think Luca is looking jaded at the moment

Agree to an extent; Schlupp was poor but I didn’t see Andros do anything to warrant not being taken off .

Pretty much everyone else was meh but sorry the worst by far was Luka. Poor passing, poor positioning, poor free kicks and most of all where was the captain after the first goal? Everyone stood round looking shell-shocked and there was no geeing them up at all. I begin to wonder if his best games were alongside Cabaye? In which case bring in Kayoute and Meyer asap. Not knocked off the ball, driving forward whenever they could and wanting the ball.

Oh and I think you are very harsh about Ayew.

I got vision, and the rest of the world wears bifocals.

MacArthur was decent. Meyer and Especially Kouyate looked good.
Wan BIssaka good first half. Hennessey made some good saves, but he was in no mans land for both goals. The rest were sh*t. Won’t play many teams worse than the saints this year. Very disappointing

I thought Ayew looked liked a handful and a massive upgrade on Benteke.

It's quite shocking how reliant we are on Zaha however. We look so so poor without him.

Sorloth won't cut the mustard longer term. Max Meyer looks like he will be a good signing for us. Hard to tell at this stage but I think he looks good. An actual creative midfielder.

The best teams have 4-5 players that can turn a game like that and get back into it. We only 1 and he wasn't even on the pitch.

I'd say Wan-Bissaka is something to be positive about, so is Meyer and Kouyate. So our new signings look good, apart from Sorloth. He is another mediocre striker, it's just a question of how long Roy holds onto him.

Zaha and Ayew upfront is going to be quite dangerous.

So much for a great start to the season...!

It didn't take long for someone to blame Hennessey for both goals. Won't say more cos I don't want a yellow card.

Hennessey kept us in that game. He played superbly, without him we’d have been dead and buried much earlier.

First goal was a neat finish and piss poor defending by the CBs, second goal was 1 on 1 with everyone up the pitch and in no way his fault.

If I was Roy, I'd bounce them all back into training tomorrow for hard lessons debrief and intensive training around the international break. We CANNOT base club fortunes essentially around Zaha's team inclusion with ALL others needing to earnestly step up to the plate = ALL others in starting XI today did not do so against a team there for the taking.

Let's chalk this match down as 'should've won but failed poorly and letting down the fans'.

I would just like to say I haven’t enjoyed a game less in ages. We were poor apart from 15 mins towards the end. This is also compounded by the new season ticket holder sitting next to me who doesn’t stop moaning from start to finish. He will end end swallowing my fist before the season is out if he doesn’t shut the f*** up. Rant over.

We started slow and sluggish today. Saints were at us, in our faces from the start and we never seemed to recover. Most frustrating thing is when we finally win a corner and it doesn't beat the first man or Is so hard it goes fo a throw in on the other side. Ayew was ok, Wayne good again, Benteke poor again.Still were better off than last season

its a town full of losers, i,m pulling outta here to win

With every miss, Benteke is digging himself a bigger and bigger hole of low confidence to get out of. Macca and AWB were solid, as was Hennessey, but Schlupp and Ayew didn't do enough. I think we should line up like this v Huddersfield

Hennessey
AWB Tomkins(if he's back) Sakho Souare
Meyer Kouyate Macca PVA
Zaha Townsend
